The way I work (all the following pictures are Copyright 2002 Delcourt Productions, cartoonist : Laurent Cagniat):
At last, a cover :

Woops ! Sorry...
Thanks for your compliments
At first, I select the inking which is defined as an alpha layer.
Then, I create selections (steps 2 and 3). The biggest one (purple) is the sky. The forest on the background, the grass, the characters on the background, the plants on the foreground and a selection for each one of the three first characters.
Step 4 : I decide to place the light source (upper right corner) and I begin to colorize the forest (airbrush in fading or melted mode -I don't know the right term in english), the grass (color > pointillism and directionnal blur) and the big group of characters.
Step 5 to 7 : I define the lights and shadows on objects (imagine a flash of lightning).
Step 8 to the end : I work on the three most important characters and add white lines to reinforce the rain. |

The linework is realy good!
I like it, nice dynamic.
But for such coloring you don't need Photoshop.
Cheers

I know but I really have a trouble with Painter's interface (if you're thinking about this soft).
I'd like to work with more materials (as inks, watercoulours, etc.) but what I tried with Photoshop is not what I'm looking for (I don't like to work with plugins).
I checked your site. your stuff is really good ! |

Wow ! Impressionnant !
Je suis sur le derrire de voir quelqu'un qui connat Vauriens, ici !
Les dessins sont toujours de Laurent Cagniat (il s'est amlior depuis le tome 2, sortie franaise prvue au mois de mai, avec un joli coffret)

Nice! You work for ditions Delcourt? I looked down the list of auteurs over at their site, to find the Fabrices among them that had a similar style like the one you're displaying, but I didn't immediately find one. That is, if you're Fabrice...
What series are you working on? Is it possible I've already came across an album here in Flanders, Belgium?
Ah, Vauriens, I read now. Haven't seen the series yet, but I'll make sure to pick up a tome.
Stick around on Sijun! |

Excellent ! Way cool tutorial, your line is crisp and clean, this is something I really admire with inkings ( I SO suck at inking :D).. All hail mighty Photoshop ! |

I work both for Editions Delcourt and Associated Humanoids, as a color maker.
By the cheers and compliments that I receieved, I think that there's a misunderstanding : I'm not the cartoonist neither of the page with the kids jumping out from the forest nor the one with the two statues. Just of the two first pictures (I edit my fisrt post to be clear).
The cartonnist is a friend of mine who is also working with Regis Loisel.
If you go to http://www.editions-delcourt.fr, menu "a paraitre" (that means to come out), you'll see on april's forecast "Vauriens". You can click on the very nice cover colored by another one of my friends and, also, such as my mentor Claude Guth (a famous color maker of Lanfeust of Troy and, since 4 months, the second author of Pitchi Po, not translated yet).
Where do you live in Flanders ? Today we go for a trip of 5 days : Brugge, Brussel and Antwerpen. Maybe, we'll go upper in the north...
Edit : perhaps, begin of next year, you'll find a book, drawed by myself. I'm preparing my stuff to show the publishers that I'm also a cartoonist
