henrik...
that may be part of the reason then. There are over (in market guide 2001)
450 new markets
2,100 art directors, buyers & dealers
350+ magazines
200+ pster & print companies
200+ greetingg card companies
350+ art galleries
250+ ad agencies & design firms
850+ email addresses and 750+ websites
who are you sending your stuff to? There are thousands who don't come close to your talent working full time...
get the book and start marketing yourself in a real way. Word of mouth can be effective but laying yourself out there thick is way more effective.
Peace

uhm Henrik, why cant you get a job?
If you are not picky, you can get a job quite easy... why not try applying for UDS. www.uds.se game company.
or maybe DICE www.dice.se
or any other game company.
But gamecompany jobofferings nowadays almost always requires that you know 3d modelling/texturing as well.
You should do mattepaintings or something. |

Henrik, this is great work. You shouldn't have much trouble finding work, unless you live in some hole...
On the art side, I'd look into working out some perspective problems you have in your architectural drawings. Good luck!

fuck! Henrik, man, are you kidding?! You CAN'T find a job?! Naaaah I can't believe... of course if you live in Russia that's quite possible, but Sweden...
I think I need burn my hdd, ftp... just everything and start a new life.
So my cheap adwise is build a homepage, upload your stuff to appropriate sites, online galleries etc. Trust me, you'll find a job or it will find you. I knew some people from game industry but I'm not sure if they can ever pay YOUR rates...

how old are you, and how long does it take to get this good? I suggest you freelance your self, and start doing bookcovers or something! Dont let that talent go to waiste, maybee you should run a digital art course or something, I'll show up!!! Have a look through some search engines to see if there's any job openings. you'll be alright!

Yeah nice stuff.. but IF I were over some art department (games, movies, fantasy, etc) I'm not sure if I'd hire Henry for an art job unless it was landscapes or maybe mattes.
My advice for Henry is that you need to specialize for some art field. Or if you don't you at least need to build portfolios for various clients -- build a fantasy art portfolio, science fiction art portfolio etc. Art directors (and other directors) like to file people under categories. And you are probably getting filed under landscapes.. bahaha =0
No seriously dude.. your work is great but if your not trying to get a job doing mattes then try to build a portfolio for a very specific job and get a little experience.
Read Lokis page for info about getting a job painting mattes.. |

OMG, I remember this guy. Dude, why don't you have a job? You're concepts are eerily reminiscent of Feng Zhu's clean, crisp style and your paintings are of freakin high caliber. *Scratches head for several hours* |

snarf - you're on! *slams five bucks on desk*
henrik - art college mustn't have been that useless for you. Haven't you found any class-mates already with jobs that might help you get one as well?
Your art skills are the elite! It doesn't make sense. |

Obviously he is good enough. Anyone can see that.
What's the real problem here? I assume you have already posted at gamasutra, gamejobs, and other related websites. You probably also sent out your resume to special effects houses such as ILM, Digital domain..etc. You might've even contacted animation studios such as pixar, Tippet's studio..etc.
So, is there something else that's holding you back? Has any of the people you contacted gotten back to you. What did they say? |
