Hey guys,
just some general posting of some VERY quick images. When I get some more time (ha!) then I hope to turn some of these ideas into much more polished paintings.
Cheers, A.

nice work. the first three are the strongest. i realize these are quickies, but this is what i think so far.
the first pic: i like the overall image, but im noticing some problems with the momentum, and/or movement of the guy as he is hitting that goblin. the flow of that hit isnt there i think. i just noticed where the sword is coming out of the goblin. i thought the guy lost his weapon and was punching the goblin. i would rework the sword to a different angle, maybe to more of a stabbing motion rather then a slash(?). all fo the characters are just to static looking, like they all stopped fighting all of the sudden. i would focus on getting the movement captured.
the colors and textures of this image are pretty cool. i really like the armor and skin tones. i REALLY like the textures.
second image: great image there, nothing to say other then that! really like the necklace.
third image: i think there is a problem with how her head is positioned. it looks dislocatd. i just tried to turn my head like that, cant do it. not without breaking my neck first :P.
by the end of her hands, it looks like there where some problems that where covered up with a gradient. but thats probably ok to leave as is. it does sorta balance out those wings on the top right. her right arm seems out of place. just need to make it look further away.
fourth image: i would drop this one, or redo it. background just doesnt suit it, and the position of the critter is a bit wierd. the mouth seems to be the biggest problem area. you probably could get a more interesting position out of the monster then what you have.
really nice work, and like i said at first, i know these are pretty early concepts. good stuff. |

Thanks guys.
Jabber: good points there. These pictures are ink sketches (with literally ZERO editing of the linework) that I quickly colored up in PhotoShop. I don't take the time to correct issues with them, I just prefer to zip onto the next image. Each usually has some element that I like, and I just leave it at that. They do, however, make a good starting point for more finished/considered compositions.
As for the guy fighting the goblins, the idea was to capture the point where the gobin archers realise they're committed to hand-to-hand combat - and some choose to fight, whilie others run, and the two groups squabble about it! Maybe in that I failed, and that's what would stop me from wanting to redevelop the image.
Either way, no big deal - I think the start to finish time for the image was under two hours.
*shrug*

cool stuff. second image is my fav... he is original and show plenty of character.. hehe
i'd like to see better anatomy in the winged characters. right now its just a normal back and suddenly there is a wing coming out.. This is fantasy ok, but you need pretty powerful muscles for wings of that size |

If I repeat someones comments I'm sorry. your pics are cool, but I find myself frustrated by your need to uses those black lines to create form. I'd like to start seeing you use lighting techniques to create depth. The pictures have a sense that they looked really beautiful and then somone went and traced over them. The lines are distracting and take away from the images. I dont know what I'm saying anymore.

My fav is the 2nd
The first one about the sword... it almost seems as if he has a knife attached to his thumb and he ran it through the monsters back and twisted it a little bit and then left it in and pulled his thumb ou... ok just rambling on now... :P don't mind me
But I do really like the 2nd. It's awesome
keep it up |

Whoa! Didn't expect to get so many replies, and I'd totally forgotten how good it is to get other artists' help with my images....
Tarandon: That's a very different way to look at it. Remember that these started out as ink sketches, which I scanned and colored.
For instance, here are the original pictures as I drew them (on paper):
...but I think that your point of view is good: if it's going to be a painting, I should make full use of the digital tools at my disposal to get the painting-style result.
Something more like:
Thanks
Egerie: Moebius, eh?
I'm always happy to have someone comment on how they can see the style of the master show through in the work of the student....
