Just trying out making a soft horror pocket book cover, since one of my agents suggested I should. It`s cheesy,(but so is Conan)but fun. This took about 25 mins...But it will probably get a wee bit more polish, unless I want to keep it "loose". Well, I`ll figure out more after it`s had a publisher run. When it comes to color, my agent will probably present both.

Anyway, which color do you guys prefer?

looking really good. i like the top version, but i think it would look best with a combination of the two, like the blue version with a red light source from somewhere.

this must be after the monster has beaten her, cause her nose is pointing directly at the listener while she is facing to our left.

and if she is indeed facing us directly, the relation of her shoulders with her head is somehow wrong. her whole posture says that she is facing slightly to our left.

anyway, her right eye is too far out

nice piece.

nose needs a fix pronto! make it turn more to our left.

i think that the mix between blue and red in the lower vertion looks nice. try to keep the red one and mix some blue light source or the other way around like suggested before.

good work and good luck in the job

For horror, colder colors workd better. I'd pick the first. Or, you could even make it colder by having more blue and greens. Even purple.

Yeah, the yellow eyes of the demon look much better in the cold colours of top version. Agree on the nose crit, too.

That demon looks mint!

Yep, thanks for the nose help, I actually did not notice....damn.
Anyway, my agent says they want even more photorealismn, bordering pasting in photos actually. I won`t go that far, but I`ll probably be posting a much smoother and real one later.

I am going to have to disagree:
I like the red version more, it gives it more of a hellish mood, and demon, hell, red tones... it seems more fitting.
Darken the reds though, on the blue, what is working is that the lighting feels like moonlight, but the red one looks too bright, make it darker and the red one will look better. I would suggest keeping the demon eyes bright and the face bright. Problem is if you exaggerate it too much, it will look trite... Another problem with the red is that her face is mostly blue tones and that contrasts with the reds.

The blue one gives a generally colder, icier, and evil presence, but i do agree that the red would be more hellish.

The red one would perhaps work if it was sharper and a little more contrasted, as it stands the red one seem a little too warm and not really hot (if you get my meaning).

As it stands, id go with the blue one, but with more work the red could be the winner.

Very nice artwork either way. Nice work on the monster-thing, very nasty.

Nice image Veb, the first is(as everybody says) much better. Its a shame Conan has become cheesy, he was such a good character in the original books, but got so stereotyped! Ah well :] Great work!

Hi Veb..

It strikes me as odd that her face is so far out to the left when compared to her neck. Since we see it (almost) straight on, it should be more centered on the neck.... but then again, maybe I'm just built weird when looking in the mirror =)

I'll have to say the read. It just seems more evil to me.

Good stuff.

I guess it cant hurt to chime in even though i agree with the majority of the posts. Fix nose, blue is better, colder. The red one seems a little washed out. Contrast is nicer in the cool tonality. It kind of has a younger audience feel to it. Just something to consider concerning book content. Maybe this is what you mean by soft horror.
