All nice stuff ...

I'm not sure if you need to have 100-200K filesizes for them though ... pretty heavy for us poor sods who are with regular modems ... 60K should do fine ... especially for grayscale pix .. some cropping might be called for too ..

My favourite pic is "belly" ... I like the pencil shading that suggests form .. the motive and style seems the most original too ... I dunno if you would like crits though ... some people get insulted when they hear peoples thoughts ..

Anyways ... Stay Cool ...

why is everyone so concerned on peoples file size all the time?

I am not complaining...just curious. This is the 3rd post today with a reply saying that file sizes need to be smaller.

I am not on here to see thumbnails....I wish some people would post larger work! I am on a cable modem and get each file that he posted so fast that I could care less how big he makes them.

I suggest people who bitch about file size should critique themselves on thier isp and get ISDN, DSL or CABLE...instead of telling people that they should make thier images a smaller size....

Well, unless the person is making a mulitimdeia project that needs to have smaller files to run correctly. (That would be a useful critique on file size) Other than that, I dont care what peoples file size is as much as I do the image itself.

Dont mean to complain or point the finger at the post before mine...I just seen too many today already saying "Make your image smaller". So I say screw that "You make your bandwidth BIGGER!!!"

We are not all on 286 processors with 9600baud modems any more. Some of us have the bandwidth and processing power to view what we want. (A good percentage of people too!) Move to the future!!! We dont need to make our artwork 64 color gifs anymore!!!

robert ashley: Telling people to get better bandwidth doesnt always help. I just got cable a few days ago because it FINALLY came to my area this month. (btw i live in ft. myers, FL .. ^_^) I live in a well developed area and it took comcast forever to get cable internet here, and i don't even wanna talk about DSL. Anyway, all im saying is cable isn't available to everyone all over to world JUST yet.

As for the sketches, I like the Kangaroo with the Gun. Dunno what it reminds me of but looks cool.

Believe me Robert, if it was possible to get high bandwidth here I would go for it in a second.

Where I stay now it is however impossible.

There is a big world outside of large cities in the US who might also want to see the art on this site. F.ex. if you are in Australia and access an image on a server in the UK (or whereever) you will find that whatever high bandwidth you have, it will still take longer to download a large file than a small one.

File size and image size does not neccesarily have to be proportional as I hope you know. For grayscale pictures especially, it is very possible to reduce the filesize without sacrificing noticeable quality or imagesize.

There is nothing wrong with having or catering for lucky people like yourself with access to high bandwidth, but to restrict practical access to people outside the major cities in the US is not really the point of this whole internet thing izzit ?

In any case it is certainly not something to whine about if people who would like to not spend 5 minutes to see a picture, asks for reduced filesizes, not imagesizes.

I invite you to spot the flaws of increasing the compression of the two pictures I use as samples below, please note that even by compressing an already compressed picture, the difference is still pretty much impossible to spot. But the difference in download time is easy to spot by the majority of internet users who still use a dialup modem ... usually at 56k ... even though they have 2Gig pentium 4s ..

OK this is what I mean ..

90k -> 20k excessive white space cropped, perceptible resolution not altered ..

124K -> 54k size and perceptible resolution not altered ...

I totally agree with you about the stampsized art though, but I think I have demonstrated what I, and probably others before me have meant too ... but there is no point in having large filesizes just for the heck of it, when it is very possible to use compression without a noticeable drop in quality ...

Why use 100% quality JPG’s when a 45% quality looks the same while reducing filesize 4 times ?

heh, sorry about the file sizes. i get too liberal with it sometimes.

and i don't mind critisim either =)

as for the kangaroo with a gun, some people have said it reminds them of the Rippers in Tank Girl. I realised it's true after i heard it.

I am willing to bet that if we did a poll seeing who had broadband and who didnt .. over 70% of members would have broadband access. I have seen many polls of this type at various 2d/3d message boards and the numbers are always about the same. Im not to worried about file sizes.. and for those people who dont get broadband you might wanna check the area and see if someone has set up a radio broadband station..unlike dsl and cable modems they use high band radio frequency and get T1 speeds so maybe there is one in your area and you dont even know it!

you have skill, that much is certain. what is the kangaroo about? the drawing is a bit messy. reverend; fabulous. the others show promise though i would suggest working on line before putting shading all over the place. it helps. all of this is just my opinion, of course.
