I've been playing around with making illustrations of machines wih metal textures in photoshop. This might fit into the speed painting category- it took about an hour. Tell me what you think. http://www.epilogue.net/cgi/database/art/view.pl?id=6341 |

Nice looking rust on the body and smokes. And the firey hands is a good idea that makes this thing unique. Good job. |

It looks cool but it looks a bit flat, there is no depth in it. |

Agree with above. His body needs some shadow and strong specular hilights from the glow of the hands to make the body parts look more round.
The texture on him looks really good and the flaming hands are a great feature. This is different from the fantasy stuff you've done, Karl. Wicked stuff! |

Justing that I saw your completed picture of "Darkstar" and it looks very nice! The background looks so much better with the tower you've added and the mustard coloured rock. |

i dig the hands, and the overall image. i agree with the above posts, needs a bit more dimenson in it. i really like the pixelation, or dirty areas on the armor.
cool idea |

Wow thanks for all the great feedback. I'm feeling excited about this direction for my digital work. I put an adjustment layer on the image to make it grayscale and it was looking muddy on the armor parts. I went in and burned and dodged those parts to add some contrast. The new version is up now on the same url. Tell me if it has enough depth and dimension to it.
