I really like the second one. The first looks good but is a tad flat. It could use some more reflected light in the shadows and little more focused area of interest, if you know what I mean.

Wow, c.
I didn't know you were so talented.
The first one is a tad flat, but I think if you just brighten the highlights in some small areas, that would take care of that problem.
The second one rocks.
You should definitely finish the second one.

Why are you asking if they're too big? I think they look fine at this size.

Take it easy,
Malachi

thanks for the comments guys.

sporq> well i don't expect too many replies with the kind of stuff i post (lately just figure/head drawing). i suppose when i venture with more creative (never!) stuff there will be better reception ^_^.

also i failed to mention i am open to the harshest criticism, even if it does bruise my ego.

the 2nd model had TONS of attitude, he had this wicked look to him and some pretty ornate tattoos on his head, which i didn't have time to draw. i tried to pass that 'look' along but wasn't sure if i did. i'm glad you mentioned it in any case.

rhomb> the flatness of the first picture didn't even occur to me. i was too preoccupied with getting a likeness and not smearing the fragile charcoal around!

"little more focused area of interest" -- i'll keep that in mind next time.

kari> yeup

malachi> because no one likes a picture that takes over the whole screen. at work i use 640x480 so i'm well aware of the plight of the small-screen-man. ^_^

earth & t4ff> next time i post i'll scale 'em down a bit ^_^.

they look good! I really like the wrinkles on the second. they're hard to execute and you nailed 'em. a few critques though.. the ears extend from the brow to the end of the nose, so you need to scoot them up a bit on both drawings. that's about it though. I can scan in some loomis tutorials if you want some...

oh yeah, I dig grandpa's goat!

Thats funny, I painted him last week in class. He was in Blade (the gypsy looking fellow, one of the true vampire they use in the end) and I talked a little with him.

anthony> used compressed charcoal for the midtone. a little vine charcoal, and charcoal pencil. and thanks for the kind words. whenever i get around redoing my page you'll get to see all the boring life drawing i've done .

i dunno about posting more head drawings, but if i whip up something neat for my final maybe i'll post it.

jcfig> blade eh? i'll have to keep my eyes peeled next time i watch it.
