This is my take on a character by Enrico Casarosa. I don't know the name of the character, but he was a favorite of mine. The book this is for is black and white, but I added the sepiatone for a nostalgic feel.

Shading is great, I love the face, but it seems a little blurry, but that could just be my eyes

Breakerboy2,

I'm really fond of your style and the type of work you do and or choose. My only comment on this piece is that the darks in the foreground need to get 15-20% darker so that the character stands apart from the background. Or maybe lighten the background. The foreground chracter also feels alittle on the soft side. Anyway, I love your stuff, keep up the great work and so on.....

Thanks, guys. Sorry about the image softness. This was supposed to be a sketch, but I got a little carried away. I think it should look okay when it's printed with a halftone screen, though.

Mergatroid - Thanks for the suggestions. I was thinking about bumping the contrast on the lower background, but I was afraid it would compete with the type if I did. One thing I was trying to consider was how it would print as a black and white halftone, so that swayed some of my choices about value and contrast. I'd probably treat things a little differently, otherwise.

Galen - I'm sure Art Spiegelman is some kind of an inspiration to Enrico. I know he is to me. The Maus books really transcend the art form.

Man Michael,
I really enjoy your stuff! Your drawings always have such life.
I think some thing that would puch this piece even further twords the ZOWIE leve is a little more control of the value range. Also a slight push of the shapes would go far.
once again great work.

Ah Ha! There you are. I havent been to Sijun for awhile, this place fills up fast. Nice work as usual. I really like the soft sense of volume you give to all the details My only crit would be the line highlighting the top of his left shoulder doesn't look right - I'm not sure why. Maybe the line is too thick?
