4 hours 30 minutes - personal record. I'm -really- happy with it. Done in Photoshop 6 with Wacom Graphire, used a photo reference. Crits & comments welcome as usual.

Wow dude. The eyes are very well done. Only thing that bothers me is the mouth. For some reason he doesn't look as pissed off as he did in the movie.
For 4 hours 30 this is as I would say, b'dass. I'm mostly curious as to where you started and the progression of the pic. *thumbs up* |

Tip top man.
Nice depth and color range.
Did you use a photo ref?
I agree with Snyper, but i dont think its only the mouth, his facial expression is very relaxed. But i wouldnt worry too much about that, cus i like it that hes relaxed and full of confidence (he is a jedy after all). It gives a creepy feeling
really, really neat pic.

I really like the highlight on his head it really brings it to life somehow. Maybe some of the highlight would look good down the nose also. I agree with the others about the mouth.
Great work. |

Ditto, the highlights at the top of the head and on the horns real makes the painting that much better. Great work. |

I would seriously love to see it refined a bit.. Id like to see smoother skin and cloth...
but it is good nonetheless. |

Really, really cool.
Dude, you improve massively with each pic. I think it's pretty amazing to watch an artist evolve so rapidly as many have done from the help they receive here. Cool stuff.
I did a verrryy quick little paint-over to help try and make him look a bit more evil. The shadow cast on his upper lip from the nose wasn't very pronounced so it sorta made it seem like he was biting his top lip as though he were scared of something. I also added some quick highlights on his nose and chin, I hope I interpreted the lightsource properly. And lastly, I just desaturated the background to help create more of a focus on Darth himself. Anyway, if I ruined your pic please forgive me. Just tryin' to help.
Regards,
Chris. |

Thanks guys, you were really helpful. I'll put step-by-step pics on my site in a few days.
exo: he's a sith lord, not jedi
switch: i think the light is a bit behind him, not exactly above him.
frosted flame: first of all, thanks . i must admit that sijun was very, -very- helpful. spooge helped me a lot, still trying to assimilate everything he said.
the paintover is good, although i wasn't trying to make him look pissed off. actually, on the reference pic he looks kinda stunned. i changed the expression a bit, just to look better. and the clothes are more desaturated, so there's practically no contrast between it and the background. the pic looks a bit monochromatic (is that the word?) thanks for the efforts there, i'll try to keep it in mind when i continue working on the pic.
Cheers. |

Well done, well done. The quallity in this forum is really stunning. Your sense for color and light, Mr. T, is admirable. Very challenging.

Mr T... I think everything about this image is great except for the lips. Right now he has no upper lip and as a result he looks a little puckered up, ready for some smooching or something... lol. It almost makes him look a tad feminine I think. I know you don't want him to look angry, but I think the guy could still use a little more lip (like in the paintover), so he can be taken seriously. *grin*
Everything else looks really cool. |

Yeah, that is a damn nice painting. I think your change is good, but he still could look a bit more angry/mad. Try to really push the expression. I find that when I ask my brother so someone to look at a picture I’ve done, they tell me to change this or that, I do so and then show them but it's never enough. So I change it to what he says while standing right over me and usually it looks wrong to my eye, but right to everyone else’s. Dunno of that helps, but just push it more. Agian, good work, the I like the light and the right eye . |
