A commissioned portrait of a lady and...her RAT! Usually, I like to draw JUST the rat, but this time, I had to do both.
This was really hard to do, because the reference pics were TINY, and I've never actually met the person in the picture, so I really had to wing it on a lot of things.
A small note--NOT that most people here would do this, but I will have a BIRD if anyone steals this and puts it up ANYWHERE on the Internet. I get angry enough when people do that to my other pictures...but this one was commissioned as an X-mas present for the lady in the picture, and if she sees it, that'll ruin the surprise. So I only want it posted in a few places where I'm told she WON'T see it. |

it's nice and sparky and skillfully made...congrats for that
...but maybe the skin is too soft/airbrushy and lacks texture and variations. ummm... and
the right eye seems a bit off and maybe some sharp shadows would be cool too. |

I love this piece. It just has an incredible mood. If anything, I would make the rat stand out just a tiny little bit more. I know the rat is supposed to be hiding in the hair, but I read that it's a portrait of a lady and a rat and I first wondered "Where's the rat ???". But maybe this is intentional.
Also, the shading on the breasts looks kind of weird. Maybe the edge between the breasts should be just a tiny bit harder. Like this the breasts just look way more blurred than the rest of the piece.
Anyways, I love this one.
[edit]Just noticed the fantastic necklace [/edit]
[2nd edit] I take back the point about the rat not standing out enough. Seems like the light coming from the window in front of me blinded me and made the picture appear much darker.[/2nd edit]

I almost freaked..Socar did a painting without a rat??? But alas, twas not to be. I loove this piece, even with the rat, in fact, the rat somehow seems appropriate.
My nits (for what they are worth, and if you are saying this piece is considered done, then thats not much)
1. the eyes seem dull and lifeless
2.the aformentioned breastline does seem a little fuzzy.
3. you need to work the indentations for the collarbone and neck up, the neck is one of the most sensuous parts of the female anatomy, and can define a womans character.
But thats just my opinion, I'm sure. but I do think the neck area is too blurry and unfinished. |

Wow. Seems perfect. I really like the eyes...
I'm thinking a little more black on the right side might help balance it out a little bit o_O. Just seems like the darks are too heavy on the left side; making her look unstable. Or maybe its just me
