Alright, here's one of the thing I've been working on since the forum went down. As you can see, It still needs work in some areas. Something about the raptor in the foreground really bugs me but I can't quite place my finger on it. Tell me what you think. Any crits, comments and questions are welcome as always...
...PLEASE!!!!! I NEED HELP!!!!

I think the big issue with this image (in my eyes) is that it's way too dark. I can hardly make out any details on these guys. What if you make some speckled blotches of light filtered through the trees on their skin? As for the dino in the front... he's just sorta there. I think that if you're going to put him that close you might want to make him really detailed to... well, show that he's close I've seen you do dinosaur images before and they've always looked spiffy.

whoa.. way too dark.. i had to turn my monitor brightness up to 100% to make out the image (its default is 50%).. Perhaps you're monitor is set too bright or something... anywho that should be pretty easily fixed in photoshop... |

Now after looking at it a bit, I have to conclude that the second one just doesn't look right at all. Not considering the ammount of time it too to make the first one. It still needs some tweaks with the contrast and stuff like that. The color depth just isn't the same.
Remember, All comments are welcome. ...Please...Anyone? |

Sorry. I have my monitor set to the iMac factory default. Honestly, it looks right too, and that's only half way! Here's a brighter version. I also added some detail to the raptor in the foreground like Beth suggested. On my monitor, the bright version doesn't look as good. The highlight just isn't as strong, but that's my oppinion.
Tell me what you think. Too bright? Not bright enough? Thanks for catching me on this one. |

Jeez, off the front page of the forum in less than a day! Is it really that bad? Look at the second image if the first is too dark for your monitor. Really, I could use the feedback. Thanks. |

The raptor in the foreground has little if any form compared to the other raptors. There is no sense of 3d, no obvious lightsource to aid in the description of its form. You need to establish some sort of shading... ATM it looks like a quick, "I'll paint this in profile to make it easier"...
see what I mean?
Great pic, I like the idea, and the other raptors are pretty cool. If I were you I would also work on the other areas of the pic. The grass needs urgent texture work, the trees need more believable roots, and detailed bark. The mountains maybe need a bit of work.
Promising work you have here, I can't really remember any of your other works, but I have a feeling you are getting better quite fast.
Oh yeah, the brightness issue, It's probably just Gamma variation between monitors. |

Yeah, I think your both right. I know that applying lighting from a specific source is deffinitely one of my weaknesses so I tried to work on it here. What I ended up with though is only one raptor that seems to be affected by the sun behind it.
Coloismo, I agree with you about the closer raptor too. There's no real demension and nothing really estabolishing the fact that it's supposed to be looking at the other, angrier raptor. I just worked on the image a little more before reading this, nothing too significant though. I added teeth on the opposite side of the foreground raptor's top jaw. Nothing too big, but maybe it will aid a little bit. Still, like I mentioned before, lighting is an issue.
Thanks for the input guys. I'll post something as soon as I have made a more significant improvement. |
