Nothin' special really. I did this piece today while working on somthing totally different and this just sort of popped out. I did this in Corel Painter, now usually I'm more of a photoshop kinda guy, but I was going for a more "real paint" look with this. While I have "real" paints and many of them. The Wacom involves a lot less clean up. If ya know what I mean. Anyway, critique if you'd like.
Take it easy.

I do like the colors of this guy, but your facial proportions are off. Not enough, mind you, to make it a bad piece... the piece is a solid whole.
The chin is weak... since the forhead and the eye area feel very heavy... Speaking of eyes... you've made the one that's supposed to be further away... larger. The nose tends to feel oversized, but hey... you may very well be going for stylization, and not perfect draftsmanship. If this is the case, exaggerate your style more. The shadows feel rather inconsistent in general. Some of the shadowplay feels downright awkward (especially around the mouth). I'm nit-picking, sorry, but these small things can add up.
Like I said, solid piece... keep doing more, soon you'll be a MASTA!!!

Well Feebsaint pretty much summed it up, just one more thing to add. If you want to a go for the 50's illustration/paintiglook then you should sharpen some of the edges a tad.
Trying to find a picture so that you can see what I mean. |
