Done about 3 years ago using Photoshop 4 and CorelDraw (mainly for logos) Photo reference from motorcycle enthisiast publication.

I wanted to get some artistic crit, since all the biker friends I showed it to loved it naturally.

I've found another similar pic to paint recently and I would prefer not to repeat mistakes so 'let me have it'.

The bike/ground look good-it's a pity you don't have the photo ref to post too. The obvious problem is his face, which is not nearly as well done. It's very flat, and the colors are unconvincing. Otherwise, looks great, almost 3d.

It does look almost 3D I would just make the visor completely black, that way you can get rid of the face problem.

Wow, when I first glanced at it I thought that it was a real picture, but the background and face give it away. The face int here seems to be positioned wrong and too bright (should be almost invisible). I dont know what to tell you to do with the background other than something more defined and realistic.

I agree with the above comments. How about some sharper lines for the tyres? Try to define the background a bit more.
Very nice technique!

I see this awesome motorcycle, decals, motion... with a friggin' muppet face in the helmet. I hate it when people look at something that took me 50 hours to draw/paint, and point out the one weak point.. but hell.. that's what you notice right off...

You should take this baby under again, and give the dude a proper face... The tires need to have some atmospheric perspective on them, as the edges are too abrupt for the ridiculous speed he must be going, but man... I'm nit-picking... it's a helluva piece, and it's nearing 2:30 am for me...

But my points remain true, however tactless I'm turning out to be tonight... this piece deserves a touch-up... let er have it!

Friggin awesome work! Looks photorealistic !!! Except for the face One quick solution to fix the face is tint the glass to a much darker color.

Damn good piccy. Comments pretty much the same as the above in terms of the face. The other thing was just the pose. I'd be interested to see the original photo, did you change the ground at all? It looks like he is popping a wheely while trying to go around a corner (I know he is an aussie champion but that might be stretching it a little). This is because his weight looks more like it is on his left side (look at how far forward his left knee is compared with the other side. the only way to do this would be leaning to one side).

hmmmm... riding around a corner

Thanks for the comments. Yeah the face is damn weak. In the printed version, the darks read 'darker and it's not so goofy looking. Since this is old work and I don't have the original any longer, I likely won't be reworking it. I'm embarking on a newer image in a similar vein and I'm not all too interesting in beating this particular dead horse. Matt pretty well has is sussed. The image is a stylistic composite of two images, one where Mick is cornering hard (as in Matt's repaint) and another showing him exiting a corner under full power (still leaning with the front wheel airborne). Hard man, that Doohan!
