Hm, I'm stuck, been staring at it too long. The vampire isn't scary enough. And the curtains look... I don't know, wimpy? What about composition? Anyone know of any really great references for windblown curtains and french windows? Any suggestions? |

right, the vampire doesn't look scarey, he looks scared.. as he's going to say "hey, that wasn't me"
/me thinks, you should make his eyes smaller, wide open eyes always look scared |

Hey There Steven. This piece is looking very sweet. Only thing I would mention is that the ambient light on the vampire is abit too dark compared to the rest of picture. Right now his cape is just one big flat dark area. Maybe you could put in some lighter folds to give it abit more flow and volume? Not too light though as that would ruin the graphic look of the cape. Anyway, I really like where youre taking this. Great to have you aboard!

nice one, i like the girls pose a lot. the reflection on the blood is good, too.
apart from the vampire's facial issues that were already mentioned, i feel his coat lacks the attributes of fabric. even though the coat seems to be blown by the wind, the form seems a bit stiff and i can't make out any logically put cloth-wrinkles which makes it look a bit unnatural.
also, maybe it's just me, but there's something about the light in the apartment that makes it look like it's on fire.
about the composition: the relation between both characters seems ok, but their composition in the picture is a bit unlucky. the vampire seemingly turns towards the girl and away from the right frame, therefore "closes" the right frame early which makes the additional space to the right of the vampire unneeded. it just looks like there's no reason for it to be there or something is missing in that area.
but still, good job. |

Steven!
Nice to see you here. I've admired your 3D work for a while..excellent stuff. You've got some of the best females going in 3D, and your facial animation is stellar as well. Oh yeah, nice pic up there too.

Maybe some areas look too soft like the steps, door frame, window. Some harder edges make them more solid. Saturation may be abit too strong also. But it's looking excellent, I really like it. |

'THE' Steven Stahlberg? ...welcome! =)
A few nots from me would be the following: There seems to be the lack of a slight perspective in the building (I know, shift-click and drag is so easy..=) on your vertical lines. The red underside of the cape is too bright as there is not enough bounce light emitted from the concrete below. The windows in the open door should reflect almost 100% the light value found inside the house from this angle.
Check also the values in the skin you used for the vampire and the female, see how much darker the vampires skin is occluded from direct light compared to the victim's? I think the victim's un(directly)lit areas are too bright, and that the vampire's face on our right needs some ambiant lighting to reach an agreement with the victim's skin.
Try drawing a rapid side view sketch of this scene and cast some light rays coming from the house onto the steps... I think there is too much light coverage on them.
Sorry, rambling on and on... I'm very glad you jumped in here. |

Steven!!
It's great to have you aboard! I laughed when I saw all the others saying the same thing. How does it feel to be famous? As you know, I've also been a big fan of yours for a long time now.
I would watch "The Hunger" for reference on wind-blown curtains and windows. It's got tons of it in that movie.
Welcome, and I hope you stick around.
I think it's safe to say that Sijun is the #1 digital art forum on the internet right now? I don't know any other forums that attracts first rate artists on a regular basis. |

Great comments, just what I needed. DRAGoon: the eyes just LOOK wide from a distance because of the skull-like sockets... but I'll fix it, since it's that look that's important.
BooMSticK and artifish: better, more modelled cape, I'll fix. Good point about the composition also. Hm, what to do...
NukleoN: thanks!
Cos: yes I do tend to get 'soft' and blurry, I'll try to fix it. And as artifish also mentioned, the saturation is too high.
Frost: yes I should have done the building in 3d for perspective reference, I was thinking about it but went the easier path which in the end always comes back to bite me in the ass. Yes too much light is hitting the stairs, but I "fell in love" with those highlights, you know how it is - I'll try to fix 'em. The faces - I know. I wanted his to be dark, and hers to be seen more clearly since she's a pretty lady, and you know I can't resist making a focus of that. A difficult issue...
Lunatique: thanks! The Hunger - gotcha.
Also - sorry about using my real name when everybody else got such cool aliases, I'm not acting snobby or anything, when I registered my head was empty, and now I can't seem to change it... doesn't matter.

Steven, I just emailed you about available contract work. I don't know if you are tied up right now, but check your email and let me know. It's for game cinematics. |

Hey, must be nice to be recognized everywhere
you could add some more highlight to the teeth to make them stand out a bit, you could also make a high 'thing' around his neck with a red inside and make a red reflection in his face to make him look meaner..
maybe brighten up the eyes a bit, it's kinda hard to see that they're eyes.
the cloth thing that everybody has been saying, i would make the cape in a different way though to show more of the red inside.
the drapes are nice, maybe you should make them lighter and have them waving more? and add a drape to the other side of the window?
oh, and the vampire really should cast a shadow
to illustrate what i mean:

I posted a secont attempt here just now, but realized it's the wrong forum for this so I'm editing it out. I'll work some more on it and start a new topic over in the WIP forum later, ok? Thanks everybody, this place is so educational Dhabih should charge tuition fees!

Well, aside from the fact that i love it, even though I concur on the eyes-issue...
I've got one question:
What is the lightsource? (not where, WHAT)
'cause it seems like sunlight at early dusk...
...and wouldn't that kill the vampire?
(edit Waittaminnit...*sighs and rolls eyes at self* Never mind me...I only now figured it out...I sooooooooooo need sleep.
