OK, i have been so inspired by all your guy's great work and so i took some time and studied because i am very new to color work all together my whole life i just used a pencil only tried color stuff a few times so this has been a real challange for me to do color work. So first i read enlyas i think thats her name well i read her tutor on hair then read some other ones. Then i studied enlyas work her flesh tones she uses everything just sat down and studied and this is what i came up with i cannot wait to get a mouse pen i am already addicted with out one lol.
i am good at doing radios and stuff with color but very very new to color people. well i hope i get some real critizm off this peace.
I think the hand is a little flat and her arm is blurry i am trying to fix that now i like her face though
and here is the refurance i used its out of yahoo magizeen
I am sorry i been posting so much it's just i get so exsited and it's all your faults you got me addicted to photoshop freehand painting.

The quality of the hand and arm do not match the proportionate of her overall. You kicked ass at getting her set up correctly structurally, but it "seems" you just blurred the hell outta the original pic. (im not flaming) Post an updated version after u fix her. |

hmmm... seems you suck... seems you don't study very well... before you make a final product, try to make a study copy... for example when making my new comic character, jake, i made sure i did a body study... so i can study how the light hit off the different muscles. check out that study here:
http://www.geocities.com/mrcheeks/gallery/dude_body_study.jpg
Then, after the first week of analysis of the muscles of the dude, I did the final implementation:
http://www.geocities.com/mrcheeks/gallery/dude.jpg
So as you can see, with more study on the way lara croft's body works, you can come up with a kick ass final product unlike the one you have right now. I hope this helps -- jimmy. |

you trace the lines from the ref non?
If you're saying you don't over-paint, then that's about the only way you could get that accurate.
the only thing that's holding it together is the proportions I feel. the rendering needs more definition. more contrast between hard and soft edges. |

PuckDewd, no offense, but some people can get it that accurate. When I was in college I commonly practiced "gridding" my source images for copying over to the final version. That technique is awesome for helping you size images; I got to where I could tranfer photos dead on.
Of course, that said, this is the same dork who's spamming the rest of the board so you're probably right.

I have no opinion one way or the other about how you achieved this pic.
But, I will say this: As stated in the 'lynching of Fallen thread'by raist, my paintings overlay almost perfectly with photo reference as well, but that doesn't mean the photo was merely smudged. It is a matter of approach. I get it from being a tattoo artist, there was a line drawing transfered to the skin and then the actual artwork, and build up of colors, and so forth took place.
Again, I'm not defending or condemning stneil777, simply stating that something can overlay and there's still factors that we don't know.
Edit: And PLEASE stop posting that damned image in every single thread. It's annoying.

I'm not totally convinced either.
Pat "some people can get it that accurate. "
I would agree, but don't you find it a little strange that the finish quality is not nearly as high as the accuracy? it seems too odd to be the truth...
I have problems with it.... I'm skeptical.
Oh and isn't anyone else been getting annoyed by the amount of seperate posts this guy does!? they should be in one thread. Otherwise they just bump other deserved people down the list! see my point?

stneil777 - Ok.. This is starting to get a little bit on my nerves now. Now I know that you are allowed to show your work and express yourself, but don't you think you're lacking the use of common sense here? You have created 17 threads on the FIRST page of Gallery/Finished work. SEVENTEEN, or in french DIX-SEPT, or in japanese JUUNANA!!!!!! Don't you think you are exagerating and disturbing the general flow of the message board by overflooding it with your partially painted stuff that I think would belong in the WIP section, or that aren't really worth showing to the general public? And you start a thread calling people basterds (or basteds like you spell it..)?
JimHatz - I can't beleive you jump in here calling stneil that he sucks and doesn't study! You are by far a good example of that, for registering spooge_demon and adding penises to horses. Come on. At least stneil's posting complete painted artwork. He should be your tutor! :P |

Well no we wont shut-up...
and Why?... Well cos you have been obnoxious and irritating to the Sijun.com community so expect shit back from us. Either change your ways or you are not welcome here. there's the ultimatum boy...
So to fix your ways...
take heed to the suggestions of many...
1. Dont call people bastards in other ppl's threads and generally irritate.
2. Dont post so many different topics at the rate that only an octopus with three computers could have done!
3. Don't post images in other peoples threads, for you to then turn around and ask for a crit. Thats just corrupt. Sure fine if it is constructive and your not looking for personal glory...then we wouldn't have a problem.
4. Stop this 'WAR WAR WAR' bullshit.
There have been plenty of newbie's that have done things wrong in the past. I was a newbie once too, and I did a few things wrong. The Sijun community is usually fairly forgiving with newbies or troublemakers. Usually they correct there ways and live a productive and happy life here.
In no way have you demonstrated any effort to try and get on with us here.
I think if you are gonna stay here you will have to make some drastic apologies and change your ways. If not then expect all the shit that gets thrown at you!
As for interrupting your thread here, I wouldn't normally. You deserve it so *suck*...
(PS. where's the moderation!??)
I feel sick for bumping this to the top..sorry ppl..lets hope this goes away.

Hi.
Seems like your coming in for a bit of stick from most of the guys here. I'm not really bothered whether it's a lift or not. I'm prepared to believe that you do the paintwork yourself. However, I think that it would be good to try and move away from doing such close reference work. Try and do some studies and sketches of just simple things (even tables, coffee mugs etc.) as this kind of spontaneous sketching is far more useful, IMO, in learning the skills necessary to be good at doing imaginative work. In one of his tutorials, Ron Lemen (an artist who used to post here quite frequently) points out that working from photographs, people tend to just pick out colours because they are there, with little understanding of the light and form that makes those colours present.
I hope you're not too freaked out by the response here on Sijun, but in a way, I kinda understand why some of the artists here feel this way. Try to be a little conservative with your postings here (adding to an existing post if you have an update) and I think that people will calm down.

You actually think you're playing us like a hammond organ running on 230 volts, huh?
The reason why I joined in is I tremendously enjoy flaming people every once in a while. I know it's a bad habit, but I can't resist.
Must have been my upbringing on the Digital Domain email lists ... they'd have eaten you for breakfast in a sec.
So actually, you're doing us a favour, acting as a target with the size of a barn door - not fair but tremendously amusing!
On the other hand, this won't go on forever, since we'll grow tired of you. Noone of the lamer kids have lasted longer than two weeks on this forum ... you'll see ...
But, for all that fun - thank you, Jedi Master

Huh ? A threat to over 3,000 registered users, why ?
Since you seem to want opinion, The Angelina Jolie meets Tomb Raider image is, to put it bluntly, boring and overdone, regardless of how you made it.
