Hello

These are some boards I did up today. They took a while, too long for a storyboard, but I felt since I'm doing this for a portfolio piece, my sketch book or gesture drawings would show my ability to sketch quickly, while my storyboards would show my cinematic eye, if of course I have one

These require some setup.

These boards take place shortly after the scenes in my earlier boards. The goodguys are pursuing the villians in order to keep them from reaching their undefended civilian population.

The first six panels describe the villians ship making its way out of the jump gate. In the fifth and sixth frame the starship passes in front of the camera and descends upon the planet, escorted by its starfighters.

The first shot in this sequence shows the rear of the Villain's ship. Laser blasts are coming from the bottom towards one of the escort fighters. The next panel is the weapons con in the Villian's ship, warning the fighter pilot. The forth shot is looking back towards the jump gate. The warning has come to late and the pursuing goodguys score a kill. The fifth and sixth describe the Villian ship shrinking while the two goodguy fighters make their way onto the bottom of the screen.

In the last sequence the two goodguy pilots discuss attack patterns. In the third panel they move in and engage. In the forth panel, the goodguy capital ship damaged earlier from its rough ride through the jump gate is hit during an exchange of fire. The fifth and sixth panel are in the interior of the goodguy ship. Small explosions go off behind the two pilots. The last shot is behind the pilots. The captain's ship is falling apart, not due to her tactics, but due to the fact that her ship was greatly outmatched to begin with. But she is resigned to her fate knowing that she signed on to defend the civilian's escape and everyone knew that it was a suicide mission. At least she and her ship mates would die for a worthy cause.

Any comments, I tried to take the advice I recieved and incorporate it into these boards.

Thanks,

-Skeez

very well done.

the pix are done wenderfully. especially for a story board. i've studyed cinematics for 4 years and the story board is not build too correctly (should go from top to bottom in raws) and u could use arrows for demonstrating the movement of the camera (tilt, pan, push in and out etc) but i guess that the storyboard wasn't done to look exactly like a pro storyboard but it still looks terrific. i can see u really enjoy your markers....

MilkMan, Thank you, that means alot coming from you. I'd love to see your boards.

Topeira, thank you also, I tried to incorporate the directional arrows into the boards, but they're not very evident. However, I think that's something I could make more dramatic.

immi, Thanks man.

Here's a couple of design sketches for the goodguy starfighters.

Hope you like,

-Skeez

Uh, yeah. We like.

Skeez, this stuff is great. Professional quality. Especially your starfighter design, it reminds me a little bit of John Eave's work on Star Trek VIII and IX. To be truthful, though, it looks a little clunky in the front-on view. It might look better if the wings had a more gradual downward slant, but of course, that's just my opinion. Truly awesome work, Skeez.

Edit: What I mean by the front-end view is that the ship sort of loses those smooth, elegant lines, and the feeling of grace and speed they evoke. But I guess the front-end view is generally pretty boring, so it may have more to do with that than the actual design. Anyway, I still think it's great, but that it could be even better. Um. Yeah, that's the ticket.

I bought the book the Art of the Matrix and it has a bunch of storyboards in it from people like geoff darrow. The reason I bring it up is because they never use any camera instructions because the brothers who directed it believed the art would be self explainitory. I know that this is an exception from most movies, I think. But if you don't have the book its really amazing, it has all of the concept work of all of the special effects and commentary from the artists. It also has these huge layouts of scenery such as the ship the good guys are on, which geoff darrow drew, it is so detailed and is amazing. The whole book makes me think I could never make it as a concept artist, damn.

very very cool work skeezer, I really like these. You can see how quick and loose you did them which is really impressive.

I would maybe add some more paneramic(sp) and dramatic camera angles and zoom ins to up the dramaticness, if that made sense..

HEy looks great,
My storyboard teacher told me a great trick for doing stars in the background; take an old toothbrush and some poster paint and gently flick specs onto the page. You get some great milky way effects.
I beleive thats how they did some of the starwars storyboards.

These new storyboards are just great! They really flow together quite well, and the story is really interesting. I enjoyed your concept sketches for the fighter also. Very fresh and innovative. I hope you continue to share your story sequences with the board!
