This is a rendering of a robot-type thing, based on the Ichneumon Wasp. I posted this on the Blindmonks.com board too, so if you go there it's the same post.
I haven't done one of the mid-tone renderings in a couple of years. I felt very rusty at it. I know right off that I relied too much on the colored pencils, as opposed to letting the markers do most of the work. But then, I always did that.
I adapted the way Feng simplifies and grays out the farther legs to this drawing. If they were all detailed, then it would get confusing. And I give total props to him for that technique.
Anyway, I like it a lot. But at the same time I am very critical of it. I know what I don't like, but I don't want to point it all out. But you guys can. I value your opinions.
Also, I am going to do another drawing of it (from another angle) with a rider as a companion piece. I just figured I would go ahead and post this one.

I like this. It reminds me off a butterfly jet-fighter I drew in 10th grade.
Tight work, Ratt!
The colored pencils do a great job of shading.
That swashy background... is that done with lots of marker too? That's dangerous!!! You might have gone over the lines! |

Sergenth:
Thank you. I used an old-fashioned painstaking mask to make the background. You just cover up selected parts with clear tape, then cut away the excess with an exacto knife (making sure not to cut through your drawing). Then you can go nuts on the background. Just don't let the markers bleed too much.

Thanks also. The seat is actually just the padding on the rest of it. It's that kinda corrugated looking stuff. I probably should have made it more plush and inviting as a seat. But this is intended to be more like Government Issue brand than the Laz-E-Boy type.
: :Dino::
Thanks.
Matt
