So whats the fear of an artist.
To injure his drawing hand(s) so that he cant even draw.
Well thats what I got to experiance.
the door in our grage feel because it is broken and off its hinges,,,,and it fell when I was there today dumping trash....so I put my hand up to stop it from hitting me....well I hit the glass and busted it and now Im cut up pretty bad.. ON MY RIGHT HAND AND ARM...cant draw or nuthing....would have had to get stitches but nothing was a clean strait Cut. I went to the Emergency room .....Today didnt turn out so well.
Damn Im pissed,,,,now my whole right arm has bandeges and bandaids and my thumb got the brunt of it...so I cant even hold a Pencil or Wacom Pen with out pain.....DAMN.
Its just not a good place for an artist to get hurt.
Have any simaler experiances?
And dont use your good hand to block dangerous objects.

Poor, poor you =(
I hurt my arm badly enough that I couldn't use it for two weeks or so - but I was only 15 or something then. Drew using my left hand meanwhile...
I hope the poor arm gets to feeling better soon. |

I was moving a desk at my work and suddenly the other guy who carries the other end let go, and the desk dropped and crushed my hand. It hurts like hell, but fortunately it's only some bruises that lasts for weeks.. and that was on my right hand, so I couldn't write/draw for a long time. |

Yeah just use your left hand like Enayla said Blitz. I'm left handed but I can draw with both. You might wanna see what different stuff will come out. You'd be surprised.

Dude I feel for you. I've had an accident with glass a little over a year ago and had a small [deep] chunk of my right hand taken off.
It was a bitch learning to do things with my left hand. My hand writing could be compared with a 1st grader let alone my daily activities were harder than I would've given credit for. |

The worst thing that could happen to an artist is losing your thumb.
Losing sight would be bad for anybody, unless your born blind.
Not knowing what colors looked like (shivers) |

I broke my right wrist a few years ago. My entire forearm and hand were in a cast. I drew with my cast on. It was slow, but I made do. |

Many years ago I broke my right arm and had to have it in a sling for a few weeks.
When I tried taking it out of the sling it was so painful that I could barely move it. |

Well at least you didn't get crushed liked a bug. would provide a hug if needed be lol
Let's see.. Right hand/arm yes ?
-Had both bones in forearm broken.
-Twice.
-Broken wrist
-Had 3 palm bones broken due to a dog bite (I don't know how you call those bones in english.) - the teeth went tru the hand nevertheless.
-Had a brand new spanking car door slamed on my hand. Door who was locked. The driver had to go around the car, get in from passenger side, unlock the door, go out of the car and open the drivers' door. I turned "as white as death" some 15 mins later I was told
-Oh and I put my hand on a hot iron once - had all my digits erased altho, to my suprise, it didn't hurt
-Had various piece of metal/wood/glass stuck in there sometime when I was in heavy sculpting
Well it's not so bad compared to ppl missing a finger or two and it certainly won't beat the achile tendon ripping someone had here a year or so ago. iech !
Flexible : just for kicks I tried drawing with my left hand. And promptly stopped It feels like it's a fake arm and weights a ton compared to the other. I have no control whatsoever with my wrist and have to draw with it locked hence drawing with the whole arm. Altho I used to paint with both. Maybe I'm a little out of practice.

In regards to Flex's comment..
I broke my arm(drawing arm) several years ago and lost the use for six weeks.
Drawing or writing with my left was ridiculous and plain ugly. Thing is, within a week a was drawing some decent stuff and by the end I had(and still feel) produced a couple of my best works ever(for that age).
Its odd, its your own style......but not quite.
Try giving your other hand a shot, nudda to lose. |

I found that imapared sight can be inspirational- I am extremely short sighted and can barely see past my nose without glasses- I have been like this since I was about 7-8 years old.
One night whilst travelling back from seeing my mum, I noticed that when I took my glasses off, the lights from the street lamps that littered the motorway and over Portsdown Hill were a sight of pure beauty- I became euphoric AND that was without any use of drugs
My aim now is to sit on top of Portsmouth's Portsdown Hill (actually it overlooks portsmouth- it is on the mainland of England) at night and draw/paint the scene without my glasses on to show the emotions I felt beforehand
I just need to get rid of this bloody artist's block!! *runs around the room in frustration* |
