Hi,
Could I get some opinions on the Final Fantasy Film from you guys? I have both seen and enjoyed it on many levels and was bowled over by bad reviews I had read. Is this simply because I am a 3d artist and can appreciate the magnitude of creativity and imagination and skill such an Endeavour would have taken? WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS?

I thought the movie was pretty good...and the animation was amazing. It was only the story that turned me off a bit...

It was a mite confusing and I didn't like the whole Gaia thing, too hippy. When I think of Gaia I think of Captain Planet...damn. But it looked good enough to keep it interesting, and I'm sure if I was into that whole scene I would have appreciated it even more.

I felt that the Gaia idea was very Japanese in its foundation. Kind of similar to the Shinto religion and others similar where they believe that trees and even mountains have their own spirit. I liked the idea for that reason. I thought it was kinda cool.

I would love to see an Alien 2 clone fully rendered, that would be real cool.

being a 3d artist as well, the movie made a big impact for me. i thought the visuals were amazing, along with the story too. i can't really give you too much insight on why other people would hate it, except that people these days seem dissapointed on plots. ff's was great, i had read dozens of interviews with the creators prior to it's release and they knew what they were doing.

Thank god for artists like you Mezoic!

It is funny, all the artists at my work loved it and all the programmers complained about it!!! But they said they loved the computers in the "matrix" with the streaming text"

Its a pity the producers feel they are not going to make another film due to the critics
and blowing their budget.

I had a hard time picking my jaw off the floor the first half of the movie, but my patience with the voice acting, acting and dialogue grew thin after a while. The movie was great, but the only reason to see it over a live-action movie is the graphics. I mean, I think you could show it to somebody who had no clue about the graphics being CG and they would have gripes. The animation missed human tendencies and flaws like brushing back hair, maybe wiping foreheads, rubbing eyes.. that kind of thing.

well I loved it.
I accept its floors.
I accept the lipsinking was dodgey (especially with the old woman on the council)
I accept that the marines were wiped out too close together. That the black guys yell while shooting (just before he died) was lame as... I accept that Ben Affleck should have been the voise for Grey seeing they appear to be twins anyway.

BUT!!!!!

It was the single most amazing C.G. creation that I have seen and I guess I am the target demographic. I really wish someone would send me the model of aki!!! and/or that wicked aircraft.

I thought FF was ok. But that's it, just ok. The modelling, texturing, and lighting were great but man did the animation stink in parts of that movie. And I'm not just talking about the lip-synch I mean in portions all of the animation was downright terrible. But in other portions it was great. It was very inconsistent, kind of like Shrek was. Cid and the Major (General's assistant) were great throughout the entire movie animation-wise but the General was bad throughout the entire movie. Aki and Grey both had their moments of mediocrity as well but weren't too bad for the most part. All the other characters were just kind of so-so.

Story didn't bother me as much as I thought it would after reading a few reviews. I actually thought the story was pretty decent in an anime kind of way.

The movie didn't have all the qualities that most of the FF games have but that didn't bother me much. Alot of people compained that it wasn't like the games because it wasn't fantasy based but neither were the 7th and 8th games. The only thing really missing from the games that I would have liked to have seen in the movie is chocobos (at least a picture of one on someone's shirt of something) and the theme music because they appear in every game whether they be fantasy or sci-fi.
