...I might as well get some feedback from those who don't frequent ShaneGlines' boards and Eatpoo. This piece is called "My Heart Hurts". I'll run down the reasoning behind certain features of it later.
Sketch:
Partial colors:
More colors / refining:
Took some more suggestions into effect, and came up with the next progressive pic. Damn, I really am postponing coloring that puddle of blood and the freshly removed heart.
A brief description of the emotions I was attempting to convey through this piece:
Well, I misinterpreted a relationship to an unhealthy extent due to the physical attraction going a bit too far. Too far for a beginning couple, at least. I spent quite a many hours at this girl's home, showing my affection prior to her heading off to her work. I assumed that, due to the feelings I had, they must be similar if not identical on her side. ...I was wrong. After a particularly uneventful night, she never met me face to face again. A rather dismissive phone call and no real explanations kept me guessing, and even more pained due to the lack of input - an assumption that I, perhaps, wasn't able to comprehend. Notice, if you will that the female side of the relationship might never have been there... and that yes, it was a cold, callous, indifferent attitude the rejection was served with. Notice, though, that the blood on the hands is very real, and the only evidence, save "my" own reaction and display, that anything had happened.
Wow. I feel like a loser for having to explain my own drawing. :/ Perhaps I just wasn't clear on it, I'll have to try harder next time. I've apprently failed if my reaction is seen as being humorous, unless there's just an amusement portrayed at anything morose / morbid. I use graphic, "comedic" imagery to shock a pause into the viewer, hopefully to get more than a moments glance. I want my emotions conveyed through my art, since I have such a terrible time doing so in person.
Edit: Please excuse the dripping melodrama. It's simply my style. :/
...C&C, please.

Dude that pics is simply sweet, so much of what you speak of comes out in the picture. You've got awesome skill coupled with a perceptiveness/ability to display thing that just is supa dupa. I really liek the sketch, maybe even more than the cleaned up version, but that's just my opinion, great work, and keep sane! :P |

I also like the sketch more than the finished rendering. The sketch to me, conveys the feeling a lot more. It is fresh, the lines have movement they are loose and expressive. That is something that 'rendering' doesn't have. The final pic is polished, clean etc.. the opposite of expression in terms of emotion at least to me I can relate to the sketch lines much more.
Hope that helps. |
