Hello guys...

I'm working on this piece and thought I should go ahead and post what I have so far. I'm pretty new to digital painting so please be gental...hehehe... But not to gental, I need / want to learn as much as I can so pleasse crit away!!

I included a work in progress picture as well... I say I probably have another day or two's work on this scene.

If anyone can help me get a realistic stone work effect on the walls I would be forever greatful...

I'm finding I'm having problems with the details. When I add detail the picture starts to look flat. I want to give as much depth as I can to this piece.

Cheers,

and the work in progress pic...

hmm.
maybe it's better to work out your ruff
somewhat more before adding the details.
personallly,i wouldn't worrry that much about stone work effects because the castle
is pretty much far away.
emphazise on the atmosphere and depth
of the image- on your pic i added a lot more 'fog' and contrast between the castle
and mountains in the distance.

Thanks tek9z your input hit what I was trying to acomplish right on the nose! I was to caught up in the details and never even thought about the atmosphere...

Thanks again tek9z.

Ok here's my latest update...

tek9z I took your advice, and to the best to my abilities here's what I came up with so far.

I have to say you diffidently opened my eyes by your paint over. Thanks again.

If you look at my painting you can see that I pick a color and set the opacity to 10%- 40% and start making brush strokes till I get the desired color I am looking for. Is this a proper way to go about painting? Or should I force myself to pick the exact color I'm looking for and paint it with 100% opacity?

- Shawn

Coming along great here, has improved alot. However, the mountains in the background shoud have a fading/misty look to them simular to that of the castle. Also perhaps more overlaping in that region would add some additional depth. And while I am at it, what if you added some kind of mist to the bottom left hand corner.
