This is an experiment trying to get the the light and shadows to fall correct... To point out I am aware of the shortage of shadows on the leg she is sitting on, otherwise I would like your oppinion on where to add/remove lighting/shadows, and what to make for surroundings. |

Holy God wow.
I'm always blown away by you coloring artists. That stuff is amazing. So please disregard any criticism in the following; I'm just remarking as a fan, really. I'm not sure how to go about STARTING what I see here.
Just looking at the shoulder, this girl has to be close to a strong light source -- it's got a sort of outdoor headlight/lamp look, as if she's crouched in front of a car grill. Think "Terminator", where the guys were materialising in those little bubbles in parking lots.
I dunno. Maybe she's in a studio. Maybe you don't need to do anything with the background, save a few telling "drapes" in some cloth to show it IS a studio. But somehow it deserves more than that. She's got a brilliant expression. |

Excellent pic, however i think the lips match the skin colour too much, so i would try and make them a tad more red. And possibly more detail could be added to the hair where the ear is. But overall i like it |

Wow! Excellant pic. Can I ask what program you used and what kind of technique? Brush, Airbrush?
Did you sketch it and scan it or do it with a tablet? |

Thank's guy's for your reviews....
Little Bee - I'm still not sure about what to make for a background, but I agree that the light is from one strong source.
Immy - That's the kind of critique I was looking for, I've fixed the hair around the ear and it looks much better, and I'll get to the lips
JohnC - I used a Wacom and photoshop for everything, starting out with rough highlights, and just adding more detail to it as I go along. |

Daffy, I've got to say that your choice of lighting is very hard to paint!
The hilight on her shoulder is VERY strong, and I reckon it looks like she's sitting right next to a spotlight.
While the hilight looks nice on her shoulder, the light must fall on all the other parts on her like so:
The face's tone runs from pure white to deep brown, which, in my opinion, is pretty hard to do. I recommend not relying on the dodge/burn tool so much to provide your lighting effects.
Instead, paint a swap of her flat skin colour somewhere else on your canvas, and then apply the dodge/burn effects to that to create a scale. Then apply the lighting to her by picking the colours from the scale and painting those colours directly onto her.
Sorry if I sound so severe, but that's my ten cents |

Thank's for you oppinon Highfive, I do think your right in what you pointed out, but as I said this is a test for me to learn more about shadows and highlights plus it is posted under work in progress
Just to set the record straight here, I've never used the dodge/burn tool in any of my work, I don't even know were to find it
So then to the changes you made, that is acctually what I've been doing to her, except I didn't make her a fatty. |

Yeah, the painting was pretty quick so it did make the texture of her face look pretty rough Sorry if I defaced your image in any way as I was just wanting to show the light values.
