Hi all!

It's been a while since I've posted anything, so I thought I'd try and get some opinions on my new site design, and a 3d model I've been working on. Don't pull any punches, give it to me straight! (and is it just me, or are there head models popping up everywhere these days?)

the site backdrop is a manipulated 3D render, combining a logo of my design with some photographic textures I took while in Big Sur. Here's the result-

The model is a character I'm working on to teach myself facial animation. I've just begun to get the rigging correct (or at least usable) so hopefully, I'll be posting some animations next week. A little bit of texturing and lighting work has been done on this image-

For those who are curious, each of the sections of the website will have their own backdrops, while maintaining the same sort of navigational style (links at the bottom)

Thanks!

(whoops, wanted an image, not an URL....)

hi frostfyre

you 3d head looks really nice , i like the shape of the head wich makes it really cute; the hair is a little bit strange rendered , i would try to had some opacity maps to it or try maybe a cartoon shader for the overall character

I guess the eyes need some depth too ; but the overall face looks good so far

For the site ; as a graphic artist i can tell you it looks good but you have to think with a web overview ; your graphics have a lot of variation and the jpeg compression will certainly kill the backgound pic (i guess you will not keep that 80ko weight);
and if you choose the gif format they certainly be heavy too ; if you choose to make a navigation bar with frames ; you will have some pain with your background if you are working for netscape (netscape is a bitch for that)

the glow look looks fine but a little bit old fashioned today ; another thing ; try to work in a 760*420 format ; 800*600 screen wich are still the most today have not a display of 800*600 but an average 760*420 in the browser (unless you open it in a pop up , which is really not appreciated on the artists community )

Hope it will help, keep up the good work

toasty

Hi Toast!

You're right about the hair, its been driving me crazy! I don't have any fancy plugins, and I've been unable to get the look I'm after with clip maps. Maybe toon shading is the way to go.

With the eyes- are you thinking that adding a nice highlight would do the trick, or is there something else missing?

OOf- on the website, the main pages's image maps weigh in at 1.9mb - guess I'm used to being spoiled by broadband - I'll re-work for lower bandwidth for sure! Thanks for the tip about screen res, I hadn't thought of it in that light before.

BTW- you're website really sweet! Nice Flash work.
