I know that there is something wrong with this portrait but i can't figure it out. Also i have posted two versions of this image and i was wondering what technique looks better the rougher more painterly one or the smoother one? I am not using any refrence so tell me if anything is wrong with the proportions.

i personally like the second one better.
my crits are (and i hope you don't think i'm being mean):
-always have a mirror.
-your nose seems a bit flat.
-you shouldn't crop the top of your head off.
-the head/skull/cranium seems recessed and/or small.
-i don't think you need that dark line on the left side of your face.
-The eyes look nice, but i think that you should put just as much detail into the rest of your face as well.
==Also, and the most important thing....
the perspective of your face isn't in perspective with your head .
see:
just some advice... : )

thanks for the crit, it helps me out quite a bit so your not being mean your just being helpful, i will have another crack at a portrait to see if i can avoid the problems i had with this one, i didn't really spend to long on it thats why it looks very sketchy maybe a bit under detailed compared to my finished work.
