So do you think the movie will be a big hit? I think it will. I reall want to see this movie. And I also want to see Fanal Fantasy, cause the graphics look so good! I'm a graphics person, if the graphics are good, the movies good, thats the way it works for me. Ya, I know, I'm kinda weird.

Special effects can never replace a good storyline (look at the last Star Wars 'thing') ... most of all in this case ... no movie will be able to capture Tolkiens brilliant mind on celluliod!
But I also think it will be a big success. Advertising will move masses ...
*commercializing rulezzz*
Maybe someone will have a look in the book after seeing the movie(s)... thats my hope.

i actually read the books because of the movies.... well, i was gonna read'em anyway, but when i heard about the trilogy i just wanted to read the shiz first.... and yeah, i think it'll be a big hit, because from the trailers and info you can see that they didn't go the dungeons & dragons route and sticked with the book as closely as possible....
oh, and a big fuck you to the powers that be in hollywood for fucking up something as beautiful as D&D

Eagerly anticipating their release. I'm on 'The Return of the King' right now. I don't know what I'm thinking. With the books this fresh in my memory I'm sure to be disappointed. Then again, I've been wanting someone to make a really great fantasy/fiction film, one that would do the genre proud, for a long time now. Let's hope this series pulls it off. Peter Jackson is one brave cookie picking such a well known and loved trilogy to bring to film, then again, gotta fill the seats some how.

No matter what, some ppl are going to bash it. We shall see.

"I'm a graphics person"

Is it like, being a comics character? j/k

I heard about the movie some 1 years ago, I'm a great fan of Tolkien and just can't wait. Angus McBride's Middle-Earth illustrations have always been a great inspiration to me.

Personally, I think the movie will be a big hit.

I'm a huge Tolkien fan... ever since I was a little girl.

I honestly think this movie will be interesting, for a great many reasons. I also think a lot of hardcore Tolkien fans will be expecting the movie to contain things they can't possibly cram into it. Three awesome books transformed into three movies. They simply can't manage to catch all of it.

Thus, I'm going to go see that movie without expecting it to contain my favourite bits of the book - I'm just hoping it'll catch the mood and the feeling of Tolkien's wonderful story. I also believe that it WILL be a good movie... just that a bunch of people feel that they have to automatically hate it because it "destroys their favourite books".

Well, boohoo, cry me an ocean. If you think it'll suck, just don't go see it. I think it'll be an experience, just perhaps not the same experience that it is to read the books.

I just hope they'll cut out all the boring parts that were in the book... The whole book was great, but there were parts in it that were just a little dragged out too much :P

Either way, the movie will be a great hit just because it's Lord of the Rings... Just like the name Starwars sells

I, for one, am extremely excited... but I was about Phantom Menace too. I have the feeling this will be a whole different beast, though.

Sounds like everyone who's seen test footage at Cannes has just about spooged their pants.

Yeah, they sure did sound like they spooged their pants. And everyone seemed careful to address that the CGI is totally realistic and thus astounding -- not like that out of place shat a lot of movies are trying to get away with. that's interesting to hear, because while I don't think effects make the movie, I know bad effects well - make me bitchy I think it could be a pretty decent movie as movies go though, I've read some of the books a few times, and hell, they're just kids adventure stories when you get down to it, there's no reason they shouldn't make decent movies

The security for filming over here has been tight, that is to say even living here the most you got to see was a security guard at the gates of the set

Peter Jackson is as previously noted not your typical "hollywood" director. Just out of interest, he made a film called "Bad Taste" (about alien body snatchers stocking up on meat for an intergalactic "mac donalds' type food chain) a while back. (think he may have helped write it as well) Very funny movie if you like that dark type of comedy style. I especially remember a sheep exploding at one point. (rocket launcher, very tradjic, extremely funny, location joke, u had to be there I guess)

As for the Lord of The Rings, I have no comment.

(Very different style of movie from what I've seen of the directors previous work)

I like to choose videos without reading the back, so the story unfolds as the directors/actors plan for you to see it. (I seen some bad sh**t using this technique I can tell you)
And in the order that they wanted you to learn things. (bit different I guess if you've read the book)

I guess I'll ignore the hype as much as I can (which isn't hard as most is secret anyway) and enjoy it for what it turns out to be when it's released.

The definition of of a movie being a good movie or not, well I percieve this as being how "I" enjoy it, not predjuiced by others opinions or "hype". Only fair way I see of looking at it. (I keep thinking of the 2 1/2 hours of my life I'll never get back from "Titanic")

I'll be playing dumb, and buying lotsa Pop-corn.
