Greetings all,

This here is my second time posting stuff, so be gental ;-)

I'm designing some casio video poker games and thought you guys and gal's would like to see some of my work. I've been lurking around here on the fourms now for a couple of months and I've learned more about painting and art on these forms than I ever had in the past 5 years.

Ok, enough blabing from me... let me set the stage for the images I'm posting.

All the interfaces have the same lay-out and button placement. This was set in stone for me when I went to design this so I didn't have a choice in the format/matter. So if you have crit's about the button/ navigation I will forward your complaint to my producer hehehe....

The first image is the first video poker interface design that I've completed. The jester chick charater was one of my first "real" attemps at digital painting. My lingering thoughts are the pants need more work. And as you can tell I went burn and dogde crazy on the vines (I now know burn/dogde is bad ;-) when I get the chance I'll redo her. also I'll be changing the yellow-orange gradiant backgroud to just the orange color.

Ok this next game is my least favorite of them all. It's a western theme and so I tried to add old west theme objects into the scene. My first story board I designed had an old historic six shooter gun and holster but I was properly flamed by my boss and producer for putting a "gun" in the interface design. (Canadian gaming regulations hate vilolent theme objects) And a sheriffs star was shot down as well..... But the boss and producer love it, go figure...

The next interface in based on the Chinese culture. I like this interface. This concept has recieved a lot of good feedback around the office and in user testing. I would like to hear your thoughts about this design. What works, what doesn't, colors, design, ect.

There is a bonus screen in this game that has a second interface. On that page I painted a chinese dragon for it. I included a close up of it for you viewing pleasure :-)

Ok this next game is the one I'm presently working on now. I'm constructing the elements for it now. I've included the story bord for it to give you an Idea of the direction I'm going with this. This video poker game is based on a Egyption theme. Crits welcome....

Funny now that I look back on the work I've done on these games the last couple of months and I can see my work / painting improving. Anyway I thought it would be fun to share with you guys what I've been working on.

- Shawn

Wow, This is by far the biggest, fullest piece of crap interface I have ever seen in my life, the person who drew those pictures should be ashamed to have their name in this forum. This is discusting shawn. I mean I do better interface design while I'm sleeping. I dissapointed in you shawn. just kidding, excellent work shawn. I was especially impressed when you sent it to me via messenger. I love the pharao. good job.

The perspective is off on the left side of the pyramid.

Hey hey . looks great! One thing that I may suggest with your interfaces is try to vary them more. All of the "exciting" pictures are at the top right. To be honest, that gets a little boring after a while. Perhaps you can add or protrude things on the frames? And also, what may be effective is setting things on different levels. (Like one fram higher than the othe rwith the use of shadows) Etc. Also, last but nt least. one big background for each theme (behind the cards) would .. be great . And while your at it, add in some nice music.

I drew the pyramid using the old pecile - paper/ruler/ 2 point perspective method. The sucker should be bang on. If not, I'm going to go vist my old graphic design teacher and smack him up side the head ;-)

-- EviLToYLeT --

thanks for your comments I'll try to implement some of them. Only thing is I can't mess around with the format too much or I'll feel the O'l might wrath of my boss and producer. Pay table top left corner (touch or change and I be be flamed by the powers that be). Art and change buttons top right corner (I can play with this area. Middle section, card area... hard to do much to that area... I would like to be able to keep the addicts ;-) focoses on the playing cards...

I'll play with the layers and see if I can do some cool effect with the perspective.

Thanks Evil.

--- Sa'ge ---

Yeah I'll be taking the yellow gradiant out of the background. That should get rid of the going blind problem ;-)

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

ah, these are good. i had to do gambling game backgrounds once, they really sucked compared to these

one thing though, the "draw/bet" buttons are o bit hard to read in the wild west one. if these are resized, that may be the culprit, though.

>> the "draw/bet" buttons are o bit hard to read

the final res on the games will be 1024 x 768. I know ... I know... That's freaking huge but it wasn't my call. They wanted it that size. I tried to tell them that you probably shouldn't go higher the 800 x 600. But what can you do? You can make out the bet/draw buttons pretty well at that full screen size. I should add that these games will be play on a computer specialy built for them. I wish I could show some of the animation on these games I made. how the button work flashing lights and stuff when you win, card turning, ect.

Thanks for the input :-)
