I bet this has been asked before but I'm planning on buying a tablet tomorrow because the one I have sucks.

Now, I'm on a college student (Non-art major) budget and this is going to be used as a hobby of mine, therefore the only one I can afford is the Wacom Graphire2 for $99

My question is, is it worth buying to draw and color comic book style pictures and more in photoshop or should I save the $99 and stick to my old innacurate 1990s Genius EasyPainter which is nothing more than a mouse with the shape of a pen and on top of everything if I leave it just sitting there the cursor actually moves by itself so it's impossible to use it for drawing.

I tried my friend's Graphire2 and I did notice I big improvement over mine just a few seconds after using it. Thanks for the help guys

Thanks, I was doing some more research last night and I think I'll go for it as soon as I get out of my Marketing final

If you can't afford to step up to an Intuos, I suppose a Grapphire would still be much better than what you're currently using. Besides, maybe you'll use the Grapphire for a couple years, unload it for a few bucks and put it toward a nice Intuos2 (or 3, whatever's current). Good luck...

I'm also thinking about getting a tablet, though I could prob afford more than $99. It would also just be for hobby. What would be the next step up, or perhaps a link to some good tablets?

[Edit] Well, I was thinking more around $150. Not 300 or more. So I suppose I should get the $99 one PS: Acctually doing some research on your own helps

I've used both Intuos and Graphires, to be honest I can see no difference whatsoever in the handling, none.

Intuos do have useful buttons on the tablet that you can assign to whatever keystrokes you like which can save you a nanosecond or two as you can just click them with your pen rather than hit the keyboard.

The only reasons to get Intuos are:

a) if you want a larger tablet - and to answer that to yourself you just need to see how big or small you like to draw.

b) if you want support for tilt as well as pressure. it is an extra bit of control (or lack of!!!) but really pressure is enough for most people.

Graphire is good, Intuos is fractionally better. I think that for the price difference Graphire makes a lot more sense, unless you really want a larger tablet.
