i was just wandering if a flash site is made entirely in flash, or do you have to bring it into a program like dreamweaver after you've created every page?

hhmmm, also, maybe some of you can give me tips on things to do or not to do so i wont fall on my face trying to do this

It can be done in both ways
Some flash sites consists of only one HTML page that hosts the flash.
Others create many pages and link them
As to the second part - All I can say is
"Keep it simple" - at least for starters... u can use photoshop's tool for the album, it provides a good basis.

difference is: If you put your flash page on a html file then you get the option of redirecting people to download the flash plugin if they don't have it and such things... however if you link directly to the .swf file it will scale perfectly (remember flash is vectors) depending on what resolution you're running, so the site will look the same in 1600x1200 as it will in 640x480. I would still recommend using the html version though.
Also, you don't need to make the ENTIRE site in flash... you can have flash elements scattered on the page if you want, like using flash for the menu and html for the rest of it, or just using flash as little animations around the page.
And as it's extreeeeeeemely tedious to make images scrollable in flash, I'd recommend putting your portfolio in html if you've got a lot to show. =) |

Ah...do check out Flash MX and the Developers Section at Macromedia's web site for MX. Flash MX now has a set of preset "components" that can be dragged and dropped to the stage; one is a scrolling or interactive viewer for images, text, etc. This really expidites the development process; I've been playing with it, and IT ROCKS! You can also download new component sets from the site. If you're really knowledgable with Flash, you can actually edit and modify the visual "symbol" elements of the individual components in Flash for customization.
Making a site entirely in Flash is actually not a bad idea, and it is often done; however, you will find most sites, as Strata points out, use a cross intergration of Flash and html. Either is fine - it really depends on you and where you want to go, your target audience, etc.

Really??? Hooray for macromedia then...
I used to sit and put each picture in a separate flash movie (flash knows how to scroll those for no obvious reason), but that was extreeeemely tedious... I really wish they would update flash's html reading skills... I mean coding html for integration into your actual flash movie (basic commands only like bold and such) is a real bitch... loads of things to keep in mind about what characters your absolutely NOT allowed to use, and where to put linebreaks and such... ick |
