From Gamasutra:

Softimage Offers Free Experience

Softimage is offering free and unlimited non-commercial use of its flagship animation tool.

The two CD Softimage XSI Experience pack contains the full feature set of Softimage XSI v2.0 Advanced system as well as a complete searchable Softimage XSI online documentation library and a video-based training module.

Intended for non-commercial use only, output from the free version contains a watermark on rendered images and projects cannot be saved.

The Softimage XSI free offer can be ordered directly from Softimage and is available for Windows 2000/NT/XP.

So we've got gMax, free Maya and now free Softimage. Lightwave and Animation Master please. @;-)

AM is so damn cheap that it's kind pointless to have free versions? For the price, you really can't beat it for all the kickass animation features that only the most expensive packages like XSI or Maya has.

A free version of Lightwave would be kinda cool though. I already have LW7, but it'd be cool for all the people that want to try it out.

Wow. They ship it to you with training materials free of charge.

Wonder how long all this free'nes is going to last? Probably until someone cracks the Watermarks....

I've been using AM for quite a while now, and while it is by far the best animation program out there, I wish it had polygonal modeling tools.
Splines can be limiting and a pain in the ass sometimes.
