I'm just starting out learning digital painting and I notice that almost everyone uses PS paint brush vs. the air brush. I asked one guy on a chat and he acted like the air brush was the devil or something. So whats up? |

Opnions are like buttholes, everybody has one.
Who cares what others think. Try them both, use what you like.

Hi,
I can't answer your specific question about airbrush vs. brush in Photoshop, but since you're just beginning to learn digital painting, I'd strongly suggest taking a look at Corel Painter. It's the most powerful software by far for digital painting as its Natural Media drawing and painting tools "collectively referred to as brushes" are tremendously varied and and exciting to use. They simulate traditional tools so well that it's truly astonishing.
In addition, the number and variety of custom brush variants we can create is seemingly endless. Here's a list of Painter's default brush categories and the number of each categories default variants (and this is only from the brush library installed with Painter.. there are many more brush libraries, or collections of brush categories, on the Painter CD and third party Painte book CDs):
Pencils 5
Erasers 4
Brushes 15
Dry Media 10
Impasto 32
Pens 14
Image Hose 20
Felt Pens 3
Liquid 13
Airbrush 9
F/X 10
Photo 9
Artists 6
Cloners 23
Water Color 8
Painter 7 is due to be on the store shelves on August 8th and some wonderful additions have been made to Painter's brush engine, especially in the watercolor brushes and some new brushes with capabilities not seen before. Since I wasn't a Beta tester, it's not possible for me to say much more about what Painter 7 contains but we're told by those who worked on Beta testing that we're going to "squeal with delight!!" <g> Sounds silly but if you're a long time Painter user, you know that's very likely true. We've been amazed and delighted by Painter's developers since its beginning and they're still pushing it to new heights.
Let me know if you're interested in learning more about Corel Painter and I'll try to give you some sites to look at.
(I don't work for Corel, just love Painter!)

Hi Jin,
I am planing on getting a wacom Intuos 9x12 and I was also thinking about Painter as well. I went over to the procreate/coral site but there was not alot of info on the new (or even old) version to look at. I think that if I get the intuos 9x12 there is a demo version (most likely stripped down) of painter so that might be a start. If you have any links I would really like to see them.
Thanks. |
