I just bought myself a Wacom Graphire and planned on using it at work. The problem I am experiencing is that the tablet is a bit unresponsive, it's like it suddenly goes out and comes back in.

Example: When I have the paintbrush tool selected in Photoshop and I touch the tablet to begin drawing the cursor freezes for a second and then kicks in and moves the way I moved it while it was frozen.

This is a bit annoying and I have already installed the newest drivers. I own a wacom Intuos at home and haven't experienced any problem with it like this. Is this because the graphire doesn't have it's own power(ie gets it's power through the usb port)

Any advice would be appreciated but I know how you hate wacom questions.

My Intuos is USB powered as well, and I wouldn't want to go back to serial. I don't think that's your issue. Could be an irq sharing issue (doubtful). Need more info (i.e. OS, RAM, Vid Card, other USB devices installed, etc.) but you would have more luck contacting Wacom directly.

I had problems with my older serial Intuos, contacted them and they were very cool and helpful. Of course I did have to send it to them, but I sent it on a Friday and got it back on a Monday. Had more trouble later, but they walked me through a few things over the phone and I was in business.

I am working on Windows 2000 platform
256 mb sdram
AMD K7 650mhz
10gb hard drive (2gb currently free, damn those mp3s!)
Voodoo 3 agp card

That's about it. I am going to test the tablet on other PCs, see whether it's the computer or the tablet.

Your system sounds vanilla enough, you *shouldn't* be experiencing those problems. Do you have a USB mouse you can try in the same socket? See if it's laggy in PS?

The contact at Wacom that helped me out was:

[email protected]

Do you have the latest video card drivers installed? How about Win2K service pack 2? I'm just thinking of things Wacom might ask you.

Shoot them an email.

I had exactly that same problem as you. And I surely first thought it might be due to settings of Graphire and so it was. There was that thing where you set the area of doupleclicking with that pen. When it's high, you can tap an icon on your desktop once and tap it again in many pixels away from where you clicked it at first, and then it opens. When it's low, the distance of clicks is really short. BUT I really recommend you to put this still LOW, cause this causes the 'lag' when drawing.

*I read this explanation through and I really agree that it's SO unclear that I doubt you even can fix that bug. Please try to understand. I'm Finnish little boy who is just learning languages... :P

maxon is right. Disable "double click assistance" in the tablet options.

Seems to be working, thanks.

I was wondering whether you professional Wacom users rest your wrist on the table/tablet or not?

I'm in no way a proffessional WACOm user, but I personally rest my wrist on the tablet.

Also I wonder how one can keep his arm constantly moving when doing strokes.
