I've recently been asked to design a couple of logos for a newly developed website. They're interested in my designs and now want to know how much I'm going to charge them. The problem is this is my first piece of freelance work and I'm not really sure of the going rate. About how much would you guys charge for a single design? I was thinking about �150-�200 for two designs. Is this too much or too less?

hey!, and congrats on your first freelance .. as far as how much you should charge is concerned well its kind of tricky.

See if they know this is your first gig they will try and take you for all they can,, now if they dont know this then you have the upper hand ..

Now if they dont know that this is your first gig then you should say what ever you feel the designs are worth .. I sold some logos no too long ago for about 300 bucks each.. not too expencive but hell they didnt take me that long..

Somthings you need to take into concideration is what these logos are going to be used for..

Are they just for web or are they for print and trademark stuff as well. These are just a few things to keep in mind when doing logo design. Another thing to think about is how much money do they stand to make off your logo ? if they plan to put it on shirts hats ETC.. how much will they make on that.. tack on a few bucks for each extra thing they want to do with it and give them the end logo with psd's and all .. that way everyone is happy..


The price you quoted 150 to 200 for both seems kind of low .. again i sold one for 300 bucks so that might give you a base to start with .. i guess what im saying is get as much as you can out of them but keep it reasonable you know .. anyhow ill stop rambling now eheh .. good luck !

Just as a side note:

150.00 British pounds sterling = 214.44 US dollars

200.00 British pounds sterling = 285.92 US dollars

Still a bit less than $300, but just in case anyone was a little confused.

I got for my actual freelance of 10 Figure Lineart(black&white) with backround 250 Bucks, is this too less?
I am not sure ,it is only for a website and its a small company.
But what is a "normal" price for black&white Lineart, or coloured works?

Heh well, if they are asking you, how much you want, then you have the advantage. It really depends on the company too.
Hell, I got $800 for a logo design, a banner & some menu graphics for a food company's website. They just said the magic words "How much"..

yea, depends more on the company than you, i think. at my last company, we used to use CAN$500 as a starting point. for small companies(local). we used to show only the 3 best designs, and let them pick (too many confuses the simple minded client) throw in a shit one to make it easier for him... if its national, it goes into the thousands. and we were a small firm. still 10 000 for a logo is not unheard of. a million is not unheard of. im getting ahead of myself, you are not a firm. um, no harm in shooting for the moon. theres no such thing as asking too much. its all relative. never underestimate the value of branding and a destinct logo. as long as it dosent include a crescent shape=) bla bla etc ad nauseam

PS even though its a website, you might wanna provide them with a vector version of the logo for printing purposes...

Thanx everyone. You've all given me some excellent advice. I think the next step is to discuss how they plan to use my designs etc. and take it from there.
