Hi,
does anyone know or could eventualy write a tutorial about how to shade in Photoshop? All I know is I have to use the dodge/burn/airbrush tools, but when I try to shade some random shape, it just doesn't look right. Would be cool if anyone could give me any tutorials/tips about shading.
thanks in advance |

the basics of shading in ps are the same as painting with real paint or drawing with pencil. Try this to get practice- take a black and white photo image( scanned, off the internet or one of photoshop sample images) and delete or hide one half of the image. Then using the eyedroper tool find your values in the photoside and use them with your paintbrush (or airbrush) to paint with in the blank side. Try to bring as many differant shades of gray to your painting as you find in the photo. Sorry if this is something you've already done. hope it helpls. |

Also, if you search the Archived forum for "shading" or "blending" you should find a lot of useful old posts (though the images may be gone).

i might add that you should give the paintprush a try since it gives you more control that the airbrush/dodge/burn. |
