Hi,
I'm working on an animation at the moment and I was wondering if anyone had a website link or a scanned image of a "mouth Alphabet".. Im sure thats not the real name of it but its a table of a bunch of mouths making the shapes for each sound.. like "m" would be the lips together to make that noise... Am I making sense or do I sound like a fool? =P
Thanks,
Jesse

They are called Visemes... and what you hear are called Phonemes.
You can find some info here http://www.lipsinc.com/flashsite/products/animationtools/ventriloquist/viseme.pdf. (Damn... they've really made it hard to find this info... plus their new website sucks).
Of course, this is just for lipsinc's tech... but you get a pretty good idea with the descriptions.

For about $7 you could pick up a copy of "How o Draw Cartoon Animation" by Preston Blair (can be found at craft stores, some art stores, looks suspiciously like a kids book) Its a fantastic book, and has the phonemes you're after, complete with timing charts. Here's a link

Good Luck! |
