Does anyone know of a 3d program which can render scenes in wireframe with hidden lines ? Most progs can do wireframe renders, but you also get all the lines, that are supposed to be hidden behind other geometry. |

Not sure exactly what you are looking for but most 3D programs have some sort of cartoon renderer, either as plug-in or built in. 3DSmax, SI, XSI, Maya has it, Im sure its available to most 3D-apps. |

nigger rig it with 3d studio max, make a wireframe texture and face map it on top of everything :p

Faust: You so smart dude !!
I was looking for some kind of freeware/shareware modeler like milkshape or whatnot, but it doesn't have a renderer.
Why don't I just take a shot of a full screen viewport ?!? Doh !
Ehm ok, never mind, show's over.

fuck you too.
that works, you know. :P
viewport screenshots have 2 disadvantages if you don't have the hardware
1. no antialiasing (not a problem here)
2. rendered image size (not a problem here)
so either it's a renderer engine or a texture that you'll have to use.
there's some kinda logical and reasonable way to make a actual texture in max that hides z buffer / lines crap, but damned if i remembered how.
it involved alot of steps, so maybe it's even better that i don't remember how it was done, since there most likely is a easier way to make such a texture.

Another way you can get max to do this (other programs too, I'm sure), is to make your normal wireframe texture mesh, then clone the object, scale it down slightly, and apply a flat black texture to it. I've done this on a number of occasions.
For doing the scaling, in Max anyway, the best way is to go into edit mesh mode, select all the faces, then extude by -1 or something, with "Local" selected. It'll look a lot better. |

I probably should have explained what I wanted to do with this. All I want is to roughly construct complex scenes in 3d and then paint them over in PhotoPaint in stead of doing all the perspective work with a ruler and pen. The viewport capture should be adequate for this. |
