OK, I agreed to post something in Chapel's thread, so I am. This is going to be my entry into the 7 Deadly Sins contest. It represents Gluttony and Envy. Tator on the left is Envy and Eddie on the right is gluttony. If you knew them, you'd know how accurate that is! :] Anyway, critques and comments very much welcome, no matter how good or bad you are. Who do I get paired with?
The full size image is 2500x2000 or so. Done somewhat from life(they wouldn't stay still, nor did they have a pizza). Thanks for any thoughts,

Haha.. that is a cute pic. Probably should go in and set down some dark dark tones for shading to make the figures really pop out.
By the way, I try not to give my dog real food.. upsets his diet and gives him really bad gas. |

Hehe, yeah, I should do that-I'm always bad with contrast. But I don't give them real food either-Eddie likes to climb on the table though, so sometimes.... |

heh, cute pic.
What kind of dogs are they?
Interesting division of the picture plain. It seems very abstract in places, yet there's these completely rendered dogs contrasting with this. I think this juxtaposition gives the piece a strength that would otherwise be lacking if it looked more like just a photo snapshot. Something to think about and maybe explore further.
Nice.

Yes, I was trying to keep in mind something that Jason Manley is always shouting from the rooftops; about detailing to focal areas and leaving the unimportant stuff less developed. This is the first time I've experimented with that concept, so it's sloppy-I'll keep working at it though! I'm happy also because this is the first time I've created an image of something around me that conveys something better than a photo could. They're mutts. |

cool. i agree with chaple on the dark tone stuff. I really like the nose section on the left hand dog. tater i think his name was.
it looks like their eyes are dull. Liquid gave me help on a panda pic once. it had no life .. there was no shine in his eye. maybe if you give them some sparkle from that great light source i think it would look even better. hehe oops o just read your post above. forget about that eye thing then i guess
heheh i fed my dog some hot peppers tonight. LOL it was hilarious!!!
Over all great pic.

cool. All I would say it needs is some kind of wetness to the eyes.

You guys are definately right about the eyes. I'm struggling to find an appropriate shape and placing for it-obviously on the right, but maybe not just round. I'll mess with it.

The noses are really well rendered. I agree about the eyes -- maybe add a hint of highlight or color.
Also, the big black thing (?) in the upper left looks strange to me. I at first thought it was a border or something -- it doesn't seem to be part of the painting.
Nice job, though. Creative idea -- dogs and pizza are not the first things that come to my mind when I think of sin (I think inside the box), but it works.

i think the dark thing in the left corner is another one of his 'classic style' masterpieces done in real life. looks like a canvas with paint on it |

There is something there in real life, but I changed it because I wanted something there to throw off the balance of the pic. Something like that that doesn's feel right adds a little uneasiness to an otherwise happy simply image.
