Jim let me give you some advice...nothing good has ever come from using bryce...ever..ever!!!!!! Try using max I am sure you can find a crack somewhere out there. Bryce does nothing but slows down your learning of a real 3d program!! |

hey, i liek the ppcicture man, just the grainy thing needs some help cause you got that lighitn source all nice and clear and the rest of the image is grainy.
seems here alot of people push out us 3D people if we can't draw or sketch or something, oh well, they got some good idas, but i'mnot posting my stuff here...stick around though, they got some good informative stuff...

and for the milkman, Bryce is a real 3d program, and it doens't slow you down, it adds to it. I'm a lightwaver and i still use Bryce, so don't come telling other that nothing good comes out of Bryce. if you think it's just for cute little land things that look likeislands, then you haven't used it enough. you're missing alot. |

MilkMan: When it comes to 3D programs, you get what you pay for. Bryce was the first 3D program I bought, and being so young, it set me back quite a bit.
Once I got into modeling and more complex stuff it just didn't cut it any more. But in the scheme of 3D programs, I got my money's worth out of it.
JIM: Nice ship. The texture on the building is a little to busy for me. It's a great concept. I would paint over it a little more. I know in Bryce (at least in 3d, I don't know for 4) you couldn't apply different materials to different faces of an object. So there is no distinction between the round sides of your buildings and the flat tops.
Also, you should try to avoid lines in your images that go from the top left to the bottom right. Since we read left to right, that just reads us right off the image. Bad composition. Tilt the buildings so they go to the upper right. Or, if you must, move the ship to the right side, with the trails facing up and to the right. It will balance the image. Right now it seems off kilter. I just want to cock my head to the side when I looks at it
Again, that ship is great for Bryce. So many flying saucers and pickle ships come out of that program it makes me puke.

not bad.. its a nice concept. i like those docking towers (or whatever they are supposed to be). but i must agree with the milk man. bryce isnt used that much in the industry as far as i know. except for creating background images for some games and whatnot. your modeling is good though. nice designs. just the textures arnt good. try learning 3ds max if you can, but anyways. keep working at it

If it helps...YOU use the tool, means: if u having "noncool-looking" 3d-images, ur not good enough. Just learn it...
Jim: if u like 3d. I mean modelling and such u should try out an Prog. where u have more Possibilities. Hash's Animation Master is a really good tool, it has anything u need and a normal price. www.hash.com
And if u have some more money to spend try out LightWave. LightWave has the same quality as Max, Maya and such, but it is far more easier too learn. www.lightwave6.com
ok cya

while yes Bryce is a 3d package, no it is not a good one. Fine this is probably just personal opinion but Bryce has a certain look to it that is easily spotted. Especially if your going to be using it for landscapes exclusivly. It has the reputation of being a monkey program. Meaning you can train a monkey to produce a half decent landscape scene. I'm not going to turn this into a rant but just warn those of you who are considering using bryce as a package to get you into the 3d industry to reconsider. It is looked down upon in my experience and will be a hit against you if you use it for your demo reel. Its great if it gets you into enjoying 3d, but as soon as you do that I would switch to a better package if you plan on producing anything that will get you hired. |

OK, I like your concept, that's why I take the time to make a few suggestions:
If it's meant to be a space-type pic, use a really HARSH light source. With no atmosphere, there's nothing to upset the light. Also, if you want to convey the size of the docking station (ie, really BIG) using repeating shapes like more ships can help to set it up, or make sure something else in the pic can be identified as a door or something that sets the scale.
Ah, crap, a picture tells a thousand words:
You can see the strong light source high right, and the repeated ships are meant to make the landing bay look huge in a massive, distant carrier.
With 3D, you can do amazing stuff. No contest. But never let the TOOL dictate the outcome. That has to come from the artist. I always say: "Visualize, then do". Simple, but important that you should know the image in your mind FIRST, and then use your tools and skills to get that image out. NEVER let the tools take over....
Cheers, A. |
