Personally, I don't think you should need a comercialized holiday as a reason to tell your partner how special they are.
It shouldn't be something you have to do, because it's the 14th of February. It should be something yout want to do anyway, reguardless of what day of the year it is. |

I couldn't agree with you more, but seeing as it is standard to do something special for her on that particular day, it'd be odd if I didn't just because of it.
'luckily' I just found out that I don't HAVE to do anything... caus she's working tuesday-sunday, so I won't see her all week... which sucks even more... ah well.

So you live by other people's standards, do you?
Baaa! Baaaaaaaa!
But in all seriousness, just do something nice. Just do whatever you do, maybe with a few extra thoughtful touches, rather than splash out on anything super-duper and over the top. If Valentine's Day is the only time you go out on a limb to do something 'special', it tends to be less convincing.

I know, I know...
thing is, we go out to dinner all the time, and we haven't really been together long enough to be giving each other stuff just like that (which I should start pretty soon tho)
and I (as a guy) can't see the fun in roses, tho they're always apreciated and often given...
Anyways, guess I'll go see her at her job (she works as a security guard), which she's been joking around with saying:"Hey why don't you come see me at work and... y'know hehee" so I guess I'll do that, which I wouldn't normally do caus it's a REAL long way off...
Sucks ass that she has to work tho.
But I really agree with you when it comes to feeling the need to give caus it's tradition and stuff.. same thing with christmas'... I wouldn't go buy my dad a book or a cd any other day of the year... why do I HAVE TO buy him crap that he would much rather buy himself so he can get exactly what he wants, just caus some tradition which pretty much noone believes in or celebrates any more tells me to?
Annoying.

Valentines day.
A wonderfully opportunity to piss people off and remind them that they're single.
Sorry... I'm just bitter. |

bah, roses are boring, same with carnations, why not get her an exotic bouquet like a bird of the valley flower or some sort of briight tropical ones. Or those giant daises that are pink orange and yellow with huge stems. Sorry enough rambling...
oh and thats my view which is from the eyes of a girl. I dunno, maybe your partner isnt into any flowers at all |

I got my boyfriend a CD he's wanted for quite a while... I dunno what he got me (obviously, because it isn't Valentines Day yet). We're just going out to a movie (I wanted to see Hannibal, and he always lets me pick).
so nothing too special. just depends on the person you're with what you'll do. if they like romantic stuff, plan something romantic (I'm sure there's a website that can help desperate men with things like that).

...help desperate men... hehehehe =)
I just lack imagination when it comes to holidays like this...
But, as I said I won't get to meet her, so it really doesn't matter...
This is actually the first year that I've had a girlfriend around these times... I always manage to be single around christmas's and valentines... pretty odd... ah well.

I hate Valentine's Day. This year is the THIRD year in a row I've forgotten it. I thought it was only the second, but my darling dearest, who keeps track much better than I do, says that it is, in fact, the third. It's the second year I've forgotten his BIRTHDAY. (Stupid me).
I have to do something about it.... And fast.... But all the shops are closed.
I think we ought to abolish V-day and all its annoying implications. I have a hard enough time remembering X-mas.
