Hi.
Do u know this special effect, where an object is generated 3D and there is a black outline around the polygons, so that it looks like a drawing but it is 3D?
This looks fantastic-I ve seen it in a new Dreamcast Game and for example in the MTV Europe Awards...
How Do I call this effect and is there a trick to make this myself?

there's a plug-in for 3d studio max called cartoon-reyes, it makes your whole 3d scene look drawn, you can choose between cell drawings pencil drawings etc. It works really well. I saw a q3 player model that did this and it involved copying the model and flipping it's faces and doing a lot of other crap, try www.planetquake.com/polycount and look for the cartoon looking lady, she's pretty recent and in there he explains how he did it. |

It's "toon shading" and it's not really new,
e.g max plugins like cartoonreyes, vecta3d,
illustrate etc. can give your movies this
2D meets 3D look. (every 3d package nowadays
has a plugin or option to achieve this look)
And yes, jetgrind radio looks cool indeed.

if u want to do it in a game(such as quake) u can do it by duplicating the object, then scale this new version and invert the normals. give that a matt black material and it will make a black outline. the bad thing is u have twice the polys. If u want to do it in cinematics u can download a cell shader at www.blur.com, look in the blur beta rayfx thing, they also are releasing a lot of other rendering tools which are fucking cool. |

Yah! Cel Shaders for LW is cool.
I've seen some plug-ins that give you this painted look. Very cool.
BTW, Leno, you have a typo in your URL.
Should be lenoleum, not lenoelum. |

yeah, Animation Master has an effect like that, in the render window you choose 'toon shading', and you specify line thickness, color, etc.
that probably didn't help you much, but maybe for A:M users
