Hello everybody,
Here are three drawings, done from life, ranging from 20 minutes on the big one to about 5 on the little one. Any help or pointers on weight, execution, or so forth would be highly...highly appreciated because I've only been doing life drawings since last month. So here you go:

I would definately recommend drawing more than bits and pieces. Try drawing the whole figure or, if you're doing portraits, do the whole head and at least some of the neck and shoulders.
What are you really learning by just drawing an eye? It looks like you're starting with details and working your way out to the figure when you should be doing it the other way around.

they look pretty good fer one month..
thought i would suggest:
that's it for that, i tink.
the others also look good, the hair on number 2 is very well done.. kinda swooshy and free.
no. 3 needs some indication of a nose-line, to help the perspective out a lil. also, the eyebrow arch's highest point should be closer into the face, the peak being roughly above the outside edge of the iris.
s'all,

Thanks Mozeman. You're definately right. I ain't learning a thing about drawing just an eye! So I scrummaged through my sketchbook and looked upon my figure gestures with dismay, and turned to the search button and tried 'figure drawings'. There, I found your Drawing Lessons 101 posted back in May. I wish I was around here to participate in that, but after reading over that post, and the many others for the past hour, I think I know how to go about life drawings now. So, a little late, but thanks for those lessons, as they're helping tremendously. I'm going to try and get to the zoo this weekend as well.
Nova: good tips. The re-draw helped too. I don't know what happened with the neck line I drew...but thanks for clearing that up |
