I had several people suggest that seeing more of my work would be welcome. Thanks for that. Here is one I did prior to the werewolf image. It is a depiction of a Vampire Hunter who has been through quite a few battles. Please feel free to give it a good ripping. I have a list of problems I have identified with this one and rather than modifying the image at this point I plan to learn from it and move on.

That is one creepy looking dude. (I mean that as a compliment)

Maybe you already answerd this. But do you paint these for your own gratification? Or is this your job?

What else you got. We wanna see!!!

This is all Photoshop with the exception of the original sketch. The two I've shown thus far are comissioned pieces for a collectable card game. I do stuff like this for my own enjoyment as well. It's nice to get paid for it once in a while though. My day job is art for computer games.

Hey I like the pic very much I just plyed around with the color to see what would happen. I think your images are to saturated do you color in RBG or Index? Keep posting good work

Remember Milkman, higher contrast isn't always the answer. I think the image looks better with more grey in it's pallet, it suits the mood

...but moonlight doesn't give saturated color, it does the exact opposite. the original definitely makes more sense. it also looks better because your brain doesn't have to stop and go "color.. moonlight.. what??"

I'm a little confused by something. Milkman has said that my images are too saturated yet the modification on this one and the werewolf image that he did is more saturated than my original images. So here's the question: do you mean by saturated that the colors are more grayed out or more close to pure hues? My understanding of the word is the latter. An image that is over-saturated is one in which the colors are not subtle but rather are more brilliant and closer to what would be a pure non grayed version of a given color. Anyone? Milkman? Help me out here.

Thrush, your art is awesome...I love it! Your subject matter is great, too...We rarely get stuff this interesting posted anymore...::sigh:: -- Got a webpage? I'd like to add you to my list of links on my page...

P.S. About the color saturation; I think your image looks fine just the way it is; kind of a dismal, new-england grey...Good work!

Milkman means that your images are undersaturated, I believe (an opinion I don't agree with... but hey, it's an opinion).

You're correct. The more saturated a color, the less grey it has in it.

Nice work, btw.

Wow, this is great. I really like the right hand in the foreground and the depth of field bluring on it.

The only thing I can think of that would make this picture even better would be in the left hand and staff were positioned to make the pose a little more dynamic; for instance push that hand farther into the background or put the staff on a bit more of an angle.

I think the more saturated palette works better with the moonlight.

Hey Thrush

I am not as good at explaining what is wrong IN MY OPNION with someones pic as Spooge Fred Liqued but I look at your pics and it looks to me like either you color in index mode giving you a limited color pallette or you get done with an image and on the top layer you put a grey fill over or somehing.

Anyways look at thrush image ..like under the vampires hate ..and the trees in the background ...to me they just look like they need more contrast to me...I spent about 30 secs on that just adjusted the hugh and saturation highlighted the clouds and brightened the stars...Don't get me wrong I think over all thrush is probebly a better artist then me ( more eye for detail..) but I do texturing everyday and I value my eye for color..soooo

Milkman. Thanks for your comments. I work in 32-bit color. I have in the past two years been trying to find a balance between vibrant color that is alive and the subtle shifting hues found in the lower ranges of saturation. One thing among many that I could consider is to pump up the brilliance of the colors in the focal areas of the image.

Visigoth- Thanks for the kind words. My web page is kind of humble looking. I'm not a web page whiz by any means. Happily I do have one though. You can find it at:

milkman - i think you're confusing saturation and contrast.

contrast (kn-trst, kntrst)
"The difference in brightness between the light and dark areas of a picture, such as a photograph or video image."

saturation (sch-rshn)
"Vividness of hue; degree of difference from a gray of the same lightness or brightness. Also called intensity."

a picture could be totally monochromatic, and still have high contrast. thats what moonlight looks like, because it bleaches the color out of everything. and since a picture is worth 1000 words,

original:

high contrast:

high saturation:
