Remove the yellow outline on the character and it might look more like Frank Miller. |

hey sporq its a nice drawing, I think the colouring is taking away alot from it tho. Maybe leaving it b/w would look better and have the solid mllerish look u want? I agree about the outline too.

I like it. Agree with Chapel - take out the orange outline. Instead, you might want to put faint orange highlights in the color (not black line) of the left side of his body (the side facing window) for reflective light. |

Same comments as the others really - lose the outline, and need more reflected yellow light. Given the vibrance of the colour falling on the floor, an aweful lot more would be present on the face and clothes of this guy.

Good start. I would think about redoing the composition in a manner that is more dramatic. If you look at Frank Miller's stuff, his perspective is really exaggerated and his shadows are far stretching. I don't know if this makes sense or not. Just let your lighting be a character I guess. Oh, and I agree with the others on the coloring. I think it is taking away from it... |

well. you should use only 2 colors to begin with, black and white, to go sin city esque.
odd, in the last 24 hours, too many people have gone "hmmm i think i'm gonna try something miller style" myself included. what's this, some new epidemic? or a start of a fad? :D

heya sporqs, changed it to give it what i thought was more the kind of miller
look you mighta wanted. Figured the comic you are doing will be colour so i kept
them but I do think it works better without. If you are going to use colour, i
think the more basic they are it will probably work better. Just my opinion..,
Anywayz, hope this is of some help

actually, the comic is gonna have more of a painterly feel, but i am suffering from the miller syndrome, and just needed to whip something out. i agree with all the comments made, i'll post the B&W version when i get home =)

Looks good.
If you want to give it an even more Miller-ish appearance, try to make the contourns of the shapes straighter, not so irregular. If you look at Sin City, you'll see that all his shapes are very "polygonal", except on vegetation and lingerie.

thanks again for all the wonderful feedback (and i thought 'I' was a miller freak )
here is the original B&W + some touch up.
looking at it again, i do like it without the color better.
and grendel, you are totally right about the more angular look, but that's just too much work for me to do on a sketch im not gonna use ever again
