I was playing around with the old pencil the other day (err...)
I pretty much know where I stufed up here. I'm still learning the ears and a few other things. The main thing I was going for was control of the darks and lights.
Just thought I'd share these with you all. I'd like to hear comments/crits.
I've always liked the big nose/beard fantasy steryotype.
I don't like this one as much but anyway.

Looks ok. You need to watch your center lines on them though. The top pick his left brow is smaller than his right. It is also a little off centered. Looks like his forehead is facing directly towards us. The bottom pic I know you were going for a more dynamic facial expression, but his left side is wider than his right. The eyes are not along the same line either. |

Chapel: You may be right with what you say, but don't forget there are lots of asymmetrical (sp?) faces/bodies in this world. Total symmetry is only good for supermodel-type-o-women, IMHO. So maybe e.g. eyes in different height may be individual... |

Cool sketches, agree with the above advice, though...
Every one has an ear and eye lower than the other and your mouth most likely will end further out on one side of your face.
Ever taken a close look at Shannon Doherty before, she has the most amazing eye height difference....my god, she's a freak......seriously.
Take a look in the mirror and really have a good look, its surprising.
Oh, and supermodels have this just as bad, their good one's to test that out on in magz (not trying to be snarky Jaymo).Don't try this on your girlfriend, cause thats all you'll see. |

I think you are all misunderstanding my critique. I'm not saying to make both sides identical. I'll try and make a sketch of what I mean when I get home. |

Hey Rinaldo,
I hope you don't mind but I too am a big fan of the Dwarfish big nose fantasy archetype
It's a lot of fun to draw and I couldn't resist.
I've been trying to mimick markers/ink with my tablet in photoshop.. this one took about 20-25 minutes in PS 4.0

Chapel- yes I agree with left brow thing on the top one. I don't think it has to do with center line tho, I just need to shade his right brow down a bit. And you're probably right about the bottom one but I personaly would let it slide. the mouth is a bit too one side tho.
Moonlord-Thanks, If I continued too much I wouldn't be able to scan it I might do another one a bit smaller.
Jaymo-I would agree, especialy with guys like this, whom are a far cry from supermodels It's still good to know where things went wrong tho
Psionic-Thanks
Lukias-points taken. It is suprising that ammount of asymetry in faces.
Elf- Heh, I like
I was playing around with painter the other day and besides my tablet loosing its pressure sensitivity about every five minutes (something that can be fixed by simply changing brushes) the pen tool is about ten times better than the one in PS. Whenever you try to do a quick curved line in PS you get polygons. do the same thing in Painter and you get a smooth line. eventualy if you do a fast as lightening stroke it does go jagged but it still kicks PS. You seem to be getting a pretty good result tho. I can't use painter for colour (too complicated and I've only got 5.5) but for B+W it's pretty good.
We should have a thread where everyone can post their version of all the fantasy steryotypes
