mhhh i know spooge is one of the forum's heroes (he's one of my favs ever too ) but have a real look at this guy's work.. i'm of the idea that when u reach that kind of levels it's just a style matter if u r liked from a public instead of another etc.
i hope i made my point clear (i don't want to start a flamewar about "new guy" Vs. spooge , i'll just keep drooling on both ) |

Yeah that guy is excellent. But like was said before... I'd have to say spooge is better. When I first saw his webpage, I wanted to break his fingers... and I don't consider myself a jealous artist by any stretch

(excuse my poor english)
Anthony, dino, dr bang, Flexible Elf : I share with you the idea of spooge's predominance, but i dont think it is possible or necessary to compare two style and talent as different as they are (Craig and Jean marie).
Both are great painter on natural medias and with computers.
Ive seen Jean-marie real matte painting on glass, in a famous special effects studio in France... Its really amazing.
Do you know the problem we have here, in France ?
We are good (i mean good enough) but we dont know how to sell anything...
Especially with our talent.
Believe me, we have great artist here too : Never forget our heritage : classical music, painting, maths, cinema, technologie, computers, medecine, design, architecture, etc.
So give a chance to this guy, and mail him and ask for tutorials. We have a lot of things to learn.
[email protected]
Plop : I suppose that you ought to ask him to come ?
Isric : Sorry, but im not Jean-marie, I would love
Affected : PolanskiCertainly So, why Democracy would be a Lie?
may be not :
Just a political concept which help the humanity to regenerate itself in a ideal way of life.
I do not say it isbut.
ThE_JacO : Im agree with you
Sydneyshan : thank you for the info.

I have never worked with him or even heard of him. Strange...
Yes, I think if you need matte paintings, call him.
What is REALLY nice to me are the figure drawings. These are the nicest figure drawings I have seen from a matte artist.
Many digital matte artists today are really compositors. You never know what was shot, modeled, painted, etc. Less and less is painted as time goes on.
As this is going to be more true in the future, people with solid art skills will become even more rare because they have little chance to develop in a production environment. Painting something is the last resort.
I can see in a few shots the long arm of an idiot director.

Spooge, Im agree with you about the directorWhat a chance you have with this kinda nose !
I have to tell you that I spent a certain time to learn and practice few things about cinema, image and show business skillin France.
My project now is just to write and directing film and to get learn
So, my opinion is that your spcific job and your talent, very rare, will have to find new perpectives, new goal in the next future.
In the digital perspective production, the director will need more than a storyboarder, or a designeror an architector a matte painter
He ll need to See the film, and quicklyduring the pre-production phaseone of the most important phase.. If he have to convince the major and find the moneyeternaallll.
The way youll prfigure, simulate the light, the lenses, the global image, of a story
will be more important than to have computers to build the decorum or to draw all the matte painting of the film.
Your role will be as influence as your style, your images will be diffrents.
Youll become the right hand of a directorvery close to the writer..youll become a kind of writer. ! !
.So, you have to smile and be happy.the future will be better than today.
For now, you have to wait patiently the time when you and Jean-marie and others will design entirely the next generation film
(hum. !) euhhit is difficult for me with the language...
Weeks

Pure line work.

I've long been a big fan of this guy's work although I've never been able to decide totally whether he's a photomanip'er or a painter. Nice results reguardless, although I wish he'd replace those icons on his page with some big versions.
