Also, I have Painter 5.5, should I upgrade to 6? ($'s kinda low....that's why I'm asking if it's a need to get upgrade, or just a "5's as bout as good as 6" kinda thing) -thanks

PhotoShop, mainly cause it is very versatile, powerful program. I've had a look at painter and found it to be limiting, plus I don't fully understand how 'floaters' work. To me, layers seem more intuitive although the properties of the brushes little a lot more realistic than PhotoShop.

MS Paint is too limiting and doesn't have enough functions (also it is Micro$oft). I had a look at Corel way back when it was up to version 3 or 4 and liked some functions but found it limited to Vector objects (I've started to play around with Illustrator and I guess cause I know PhotoShop, makes more sense and there is the compatibility issue).

My personal program of choice happens to be my mechanical pencil, a Zig Millenium .01 felt tip pen, and a white peice of paper.

Oh and I also use Photoshop .

My current version is 5.5 and I hope to upgrade to 6.0 by Christmas At work I most often use a combination of Photoshop and Illistrato 9.0 to get my work done, but at home I only have PS.

oh my god painter rules. I will be the first to admit its got some flaws, but once you start experimenting with the brushes, and the water tools (kinda like a cool combination smudge and blur) you will never go back. I still use photoshop for clean up, or rubber stamping, or adding some detail (because I've found the control you have for fine details can be alot better in photoshop, sometimes in painter those wacky brush strokes get in the way)

to hell with illustrator (and pagemaker for example), if you can't do it with photoshop, you can't do it.

ms paint and photoshop.

I think that is going a bit far to say that if you can't do it in PhotoShop, then it can't be done at all (in reference to Illustrator). Illustrator is better for logo's as it is vector based but for artworks with irregular gradients, PhotoShop is better. Sure you have the gradient mesh tool in Illustrator, but it is still a 'mathematically perfect solution' as I like to think of it
