-what is "matte painting" ?
-how the hell do these guys paint this on a computer ?? http://sijun.com/dhabih/gallery/index.html
-what other programs then Photoshop do you use for this kinda drawing
-is there a way how I can get rid of my fucked up mouse and buy some kind of pencil for a computer ?

I'm not as good, or experienced as many of the other artists here but I know a few of the answers your looking for.

Other than photoshop I hear Painter mentioned a lot.

As to getting a computer "pencil" it's called a tablet and stylus. Wacom makes the best tablets. They get a little pricey though. http://www.wacom.com

As for how we paint it on the computer, it's a lot like painting on a canvas only with a lot more room for error, The idea is the same.
The cool part about that stylus is it can be your pencil, pen, brush, you name it.

All things being equal, I probably wouldn't paint on the computer except for the 'undo' button.
That alone is the tiebreaker for me.
Oh - and look at this tutorial. It was very helpful for me.

Post some work so we can help you along.

Yeah, I have to agree with that. The undo command is probably the one command I use most.

Veb does some really awesome artwork!
(And apparently he's a big fan of boobies too )

Nothing beats a computer for instant painting. ever tried to do an oil painting or watercolour on the spur of the moment. You have to do it all in long sittings. let it dry. Clean your brushes. no "I'll just spend 30 min on it before lunch".

Matte painting is the stuff that people do for backgrounds in films etc. Where they can't be botehred making a real set. Least I think. ask Loki.

As for how to do stuff like dhab, practice a lot just put the colours in the right places. (a silly answere for a generic Q)

Painter is an alternative. both are as good as the other. people seem to favour one or the other tho.

Yes get a wacom.

Welcome

I went from

to

I'm not 'there' yet, but dang, WACOM tablets are worth 10 times their weight in gold.

Hmm... I replying to post my opinion on that pic. I love the pose, the techniques but one thing I would change is his left hand. It ruins the picture. Change it with a real hand and have him holding onto something that glows. Like a green orb/gem and have the light reflect off his face. That'd own.

Peace.

Hey Prometheus,
check these sites out, they can answer some of your questions..
http://www.goodbrush.com
www.vfxpro.com

Goodbrush.com is the home Craig Mullins aka Spoogedemon, he frequents this place when he's not creating ground breaking mattes.
vfxpro, is about the visual effects industry, they have plenty of articles on matte painting, it's history and where it's going..great stuff.

there are many talented people on this board, some work for big corp. some just fart around with photoshop, it's all good, so stick around and see what's going on. I promise you'll like your stay so much, your ass will grow roots into your chair and you'll never leave!
