Great stuff Leisure!

Have you seen H.R. Giger's design for the Harkonnen Spice Harvester from Dune? Your pic has that kind of look about it and would doubtless fill the ranks of the Harkonnen army nicely.

Thanks for your comments everyone.

I haven't seen Dune, so I don't know what those designs look like. I got a copy of it from a friend, just haven't had time to watch it.

Giger's art never made it into the film.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one that saw a horse in the picture. Thought I was going crazy.

ummm what is it?? heheh kidding.

It kinda looks like the head of a big mechanical steel horse, and the "ears" at the top are it's exhaust.

Ok there's my thoughts, where's my penny?!

if you use "alien + giger" as a search string you will very probably find a lot of giger art on the way. Some concepts and stuff for the movies.

Giger was only one of the designers slated for Dune, Salvador Dali was another one. They mostly pulled out or were ignored in the end. It sounds like it was obvious what kind of hack job the film was going to be to everyone but Herbert himself (director Lynch swore himself off the studio system after it.)

Muzman : Apparently, I think Dali was going to design House Atriedes and Giger was going to design House Harkonnen.

However, it was decided that Salvador Dali was actually going to _star_ in the film!!!

Come on, Leisure, you must have had something in mind when you drew this... What was it actually supposed to be? I'm really curious now, after seeing everyone else's interpretations...

Tinusch

It really is just a doodle. But right before I posted it I did notice that it looked a lot like a horse. When I do this type of drawing I never really start out with a specific goal. It's just an exersize to try and get loosened up. I start with a shape and start building and building. Some begin to take a recognizeable shape but most become big pieces of junk all thrown together.

I've done a couple of digital paintings, but they all felt really tight, so I've been trying to loosen up my technique. That one of the things I really like about spooge's work. His stuff really has great rythm, texture, and color.
