Thank you to all the people who have given me the much needed critique and pointers. This is probabley going to be my 2nd last pic for a good two months. High school: Bummer. Look at it, chew it up and spit it on a wall and Enjoy.
So far in my art studies, i've only been doing 2 years. Even now i'm still using references to do my work. Magazines in particular.
This installment I got the idea out of a magazine advert.
Enjoy and thankyou fellow artisans!
Cheers! |

You definitely have your own style going on with these 'Beautiful Ladies' pictures. Looks good, playful, loose. Keep it up. Too bad you'll have to stop for a while. |

I really like how the boots look, those are really nice.
Sorry to digress from your post a bit, but I just would really like to know why people seem to think working from a reference is a bad thing? That is what it sounds like from the "Even now I'm still using references to do mr work." bit. |

I like the bold colours and the colours on her hair. I have to agree with Mr Gerbil, there's nothing wrong with using reference material. Some of the best 2d/3d artists use reference materials to create some of their best works. |

I like this one too Eudo...Good luck with your studies. Been there done that and I miss it.
I have a rooster here that I drew with the mouse as I held up a mag to copy from...I am still working on it. Eventually I want to give it a surreal look.

What exactly do you mean by "reference material" and why is it meant to be bad?
If you mean having a model or a picture to draw from, maybe you should remember that the greatest painters in history did that all the time...

To everybody once again thanks, Its about 11-something in the morning here in Sydney, Australia: I only just got up. To me using reference material isn't bad, BUT, from my point of view, it sort of takes the skill away from the work.
When one see's works posted up here, especially by the experienced artists (you know who im talking about) You can really appreciate the ability to compose, draw figures & hands all from memory.
I want to be able to some day to create realistic works without external aid. My main aim is to create comic book art & to be able to draw the human figure well.
All of this takes time and experience. But its also places like this that aid people with their artistic education.
So once again thanks, everybody.
Hmmm.. I wonder I i'll get time to do just one more..hmm |

You know, the greatest artists of all times, from Leonardo to Michelangelo and many others, kept sketches and various helpful drawings stuck all over their walls to remind themselves of just how the shadows go on this and on that and... So it's nothing to be ashamed of :-)

i really like your style! ..but her head & face are too big for her body in this one. almost looks like one of those charicatures with the oversized heads.
