Hello everyone,

Somehow I found my way to Mr. Mullin's Goodbrush and Consequently here. I have to say this is an amazing forum with some superb talents. Yeah, alright, you probably get that alot, but it's true. Anyhow, after seeing a lot of the art on here it made me want to break out the Wacom crayon box and give this Digital Painting stuff a shot. Here are my first images. The head's a self portrait and the plane's something my buddy rob drew up like... two years ago and I dug out of my Recieved files folder and colored.

So what do you people think of my first pictures? Should I give up now? Or is there some talent hiding under the scattered pixels?

Dean

Hey You got it!

I actually spent an hour or so the other day flipping through your site and that was the real catalyst for me to get painting. I like the Helmet you're wearing. My buddy stuck one of those on his 12" Jackie Chan doll. I put a goofy cowboyhat on mine.

What should I paint up next? another head? full body? Dancing hippopotamus? (hmm... I think I will do that one but not right now. not confident enough to really make it groove.) OOOH I KNOW! I'll do my Jackie Chan doll.

Sound good?

I love the first image. Neat noise or whatever you have going on in the image.
The second image looks a little soft to me. Since it is a hard, metal object, I would think it would have the cl;arity taht the face has in its edgework. But, hey, your just now giving it a go, keep em coming...no major major problems that I see, just little bugs here and there, not enough to sound off about though. I actually think they add character to the imges...nice...

Glad you enjoyed my chaotic site ...

The helmet I wore was from the props we rented for the Mechwarrior 4 intro I was working on over at Station X. We also got a couple of Starship Troopers props - you should've seen us guys wearing harnesses and combat boots running up and down the corridors ... haha ...

Paint whatever you feel like. That's what I like when I'm doing my own stuff - I can do whatever I want. Unfortunately I'm totally locked down at work, which makes me a little bit unhappy ... oh well.

Dude - go for it!

Oops I guess I shoulda posted those in the opposite order. the Head picture is the second one I did and the plane is the first. YAY! I guess that means I'm really picking up on how to work this Pen thingy.

Fred Flick Stone: Just checked out your site.

MYTH III?!! COOOL! Myth's my favorite Game we couldn't get any work done for a few days While I played through the first two. Come to think of it that Picture Of soulblighter that Mr. Mullins (or is it spooge?) is how I found his site. I hope the whole Microsoft deal doesn't affect the release of the Mac version.

What's the show that that otter creature thing is for? I'll have to watch for it.

Anyway, I'm getting off topic. I just did it all with the airbrush because I feel like I should learn that well first before I start Dealing with filters and stuff. I was trying to make the one cheek look a little pockmarked just for a touch of realism that might be what you're seeing? Did I get it right?

nori: HAPPY!

Re: the Mechwarrior/starship troopers stuff. MAN I can just imagine that. I'd be right in there. I'd go rent some paintball guns or something and have a ball. ha ha.

Anyway I perched jackie Chan on a stuffed Frog and it really looks like he's riding it. So that's what I'm gonna paint, since it made me laugh..

ha ha ha Sorry Fred. I read it Myth and Got excited. MYST? that's even cooler from an art perspective. I've got that big hardcover making of Myst Book. I haven't read most of it though I just gawk at the pictures every once innawhile.

To do the eyes I just zoomed right in so the eye was the only thing on the screen really and I Drew it. Sound right?

Wow! I guess After I do my Jackie Chan Pic I'll fix this self portrait up.

EXCITING!

Oh-my-f#&$ing-god-that-first-pic-is-so-cool.

I love the way you've got that photo real thing going but there's still a lot of style, and personality. It's not an easy thing to do. The eyes really make it happen.

Show us more man, you rock!

That first pic is very cool, kinda reminds me of Ewan Mcgreggor. Great work.

i wouldn't put too much detail into the rest of the pic though....just smooth it out or sumthin i dunno
because this way the eyes are the "focus point" and really stick out so i'd just...i dunno how 2 say it...just smooth out the rest or sumthin...know what i'm sayin?

There's a new one, I've been told I look like Johnathin Brandis (that kid from that seaquest show.), Nick Carter (Blonde guy from the Backstreet Boys, and Leonardo Dicaprio (that titanic movie)

But never Ewan Mcgreggor. maybe i'll add a moustache to the picture and see if I should be throwing a lightsabre around. (it was Qui Gon and not Obi Won Right? otherwise I'll add that goofy Braid thing.)

Anyway YAY CANADA DAY! I've got some time to paint now.

the portrait isn't a photo overpaint?

no way man! Why are some things in the picture fantastically accurate, and other things not..

I mean the nose, to me, seems pixel-perfect (HARD) but the pupils of his eyes (NOT QUITE SO HARD) seem mishapen?

Ahh..its a fantastic picture mate and you don't have to prove yourself to me or anyone. I am just simply amazed at the detail.

who rattled my cage anyway?....

DeathbyDuplicity: The hair? I just sorta scribbled it in there. I'm glad you like it though.

el tigre: I guess I should be flattered if you think it's a photo overpaint?

The nose Just sorta turned out that way. I agree with the eyes being a bit wonky that's something I'll probably fix. My favorite part that I think is photorealistic is that cheek. It really looks like skin to me. and it's mostly a fluke.

Sorry about rattling the cage I was trying to steal your food.

Everyone: Thank you very much for the kind words. I was feeling kinda Crappy about my pencil work so I thought I'd try something new I'm glad it turned out well.

anyway I have a new picture I was working on today that I'm going to post in a new thread so If anyone wants to come take a look please look for my name.
