Are ya ready?
That's a lot of people willing to give this a go. Now watch me screw up the painting.
Since there are so many, I think we should limit the posts to 400x300 with a good deal of jpg-ing.
Here is the poor sucker who's gonna get it:
Notice that it is 400x300
Here is a full size jpeg, which I am posting against my better judgement. Look at all those wrinkles! No! no details!
It is from a corel cd sampler I had laying around, so I don't think any copyrights are going to be violated
Yes, a black man on purpose to get me to look at what is there instead of grabbing some dark yellows and browns and calling it PhleshTones. The lighting is a little diffuse for what I had in mind, but that's OK.
So this Friday I will post a new thread with the first step.
Anything I forgot, please tell me.
----
Freddy, Doing the same idea but with an environment and letting people go wild with it is a good idea. You could do this? Actually you should do a head demo like this.
Pak-rat, no creativity here at all. Very simple, very straightforward, no interpretation at all.
Genesequence, I guess people will do whatever they want with the pics as they progress. At some point is will throw up my hands and give up as the model sprouts bionic implants and satanic tatoos but the point of the excercise is to ingrain some very basic concepts of painting.
Sfr, maybe the next time, like I said to freddy, i will do an environment
Sumaleth, I like the idea of you guys doing a step first. Might be more apt to listen later.
OK, I post step 1 this fri. Between now and then, if you want to make another thread and give it a whack, please do. If people want to wait, they can.

You know, I read that other long thread about this, and I'm still confused as hell about what we're doing. So, anyone can paint this handsome guy, and start their own thread on how they did it? OR do we all collectively post in the same thread? Please enlighten me.

I guess we are gonna do a step by step situation on how to . draw and paint realistically , for some it might be easy for others it will be more like sharpening skills , and for others it might be hard to follow ., but it will be a learning experience after all ... so I guess spooge demon will post the first step on how to go about digitally painting this guy here .. but he is saying if ya wanna give it a whack before Friday GO ahead.. |

It's Spooge Demon Art Camp. Sounds like an idea that's ready to pop!
Craig, have you ever thought of capturing video of the creation of a full painting (with audio commentary, of course)? You could sell the crap out of it here. I'd buy it. |

Actually, It wouldn't be too hard to do with HyperCam, I think. You can set it up to capture however many frames per second you want and also record voice from the mic as you go. I think HyperCam was designed to work for windows tutorials so I don't know if the program will capture the screen from within a paint program. It should. I'm going to try it now to satisfy my curiosity...

I know eventually that I will be able to do a ptg, have anyone log in and watch. That would be sweet. Just bandwidth in the way?
"And here is the happy little trees, yah, fire them in there with your happy brush..."
I think i will do this demo and save each step as a layer in a PS file for easier review. Might be a good way to do the image for everyone. |

first, and possibley last step. i felt this piece to be rather challenging. it has been quite a while since i did this stuff on a regular basis.
at first, i felt like taking it to the finish, but i kinda like it how it is, too.

nevermind. i picked it back up later on. I have no clue how much time i've spent so far.

I really really really like this idea. I also would like to thank spooge for taking the time. I think the subject is great too. Hey, is it just me, or does this guy have really large ears? |

Hello everyone,
You may be following this adventure in Fred's "spoges image I couldnt wait" thread.
AS you may have read there, I cannot do this at this time, because I cannot see it through to the end (I am going away for 6 weeks)
I am handing this over to Fred lock stock and barrel. I will be interested in seeing how he does it. I will write him a few thoughts I have on it, but from what I posted earlier and his agreement with it, I think you area in good hands. Fred seems to have the time and energy and desire to put a lot into this, so do take advantage!
This is what I wrote in the other thread, sorry for the dup, but i want to make sure everyone sees it;
"I was going to take this in a little different direction than Fred did. Each step (I imagine about 10) would be spaces out a week, and likeness and finish wold not be considered. I would start out slow, and with so much time in between steps, everyone could ponder exactly the reason why things happen the way they do. I would also write a bit about what I am doing. I think Freds first step would be about #3 in my thinking.
i also would not pretend to be able to teach fred anything, not the other advanced artists here. I have not posted much for the beginners here because it is overwhelming once you think about how much must be explained. So that was the point behind this exercise. Really slow, really basic, plenty of time for discussion.
But it has just occurred, I am going away for 6 weeks starting Memorial Day, so I can't be doing this! Fark! I will be able to post (maybe) the first three weeks, but not the last two.
Fred, with this in mind, would you like to take it over from me?
I agree that you should not get ahead of the steps; it is tempting for others to start noodling and not think about the important stuff"
So just to beat a dead horse, I think this should be simple, with small steps, aimed at newbies, with plenty of explanation at each step.
When I get back, early July, I may do another, but maybe environmental, or more advanced, we'll see.
So I bow out officially-It's now spooge along with Fred!
